Hey Church Family,

I wanted to take a minute to just share some encouraging thoughts with you. I’ve quoted the book “Sing” by Keith and Kristyn Getty (authors of modern hymns “In Christ Alone and “Speak O Lord”) before. But as I was thinking and reflecting on the things we have going on in the life of our church it struck me. As believers and followers of Jesus Christ, we are called to spread the gospel. We’re given clear instruction by Jesus himself to tell other people about all Jesus has accomplished in his life, death and resurrection and how it affects us. We employ all kinds of tools and methods in doing this, but did you know one of the simplest forms is in singing? The Getty’s say it this way, “When we sing, we witness to the people in our church who are yet to believe…the sight and sound of a congregation singing praise to God together is a radical witness in a culture that rejects God…Our songs are a public manifesto of what we believe.”

I firmly believe there is not a more beautiful sound anywhere than when people, gathered and united under the gospel of Jesus, are lifting up their voices in melody proclaiming the goodness and grace of Jesus. And in doing so, we bear witness to what we believe. So, as we continue to gather together, sing loud, sing proud and together let us proclaim the gospel and bear witness to our Lord and Savior Jesus.

There are other ways you can do this. Of course, there is always space for more to join our choir. It’s not too late to join us in our fall season. We rehearse every Sunday afternoon at 4:30. We’d love to have you. Our Christmas cantata is also coming up and rehearsals for that will begin soon. If you’d like to sing as a part of our cantata, be sure to watch and stay tuned for details on that.

As always I am humbled and blessed to serve you. The Lord bless you and keep you!

In Christ, Sam Killman

NOTES

Grace and peace! Every year, when school is back in session, our

students, faculty, and teachers always enter what seems like a brand new world. Over the summer things and people change, but one thing remains the same: our schools are a huge mission field, ripe for harvest opportunities to share the gospel with lost people. I’m thankful for each and every student and school faculty member who is faithful in sharing Jesus with those who need Him in our schools. Would you join me in praying for them throughout this entire school year, and for the Lord of the harvest to send more laborers to go into this field? May God bring revival to our community through our Muhlenberg County students!

We have just finished our sermon series through 2 Timothy which was titled, “Letter from a Dying Man,” and I hope you enjoyed going through the letter of 2 Timothy as much as I did. In reflecting back on the letter, here were the major takeaways we emphasized:

-God has given every believer the Holy Spirit and spiritual gifts to be used for the building up of God’s Kingdom.

-God’s power works within the Christian heart so that we can stand firm in trials.

-The gospel message of Christ’s crucifixion and resurrection from the dead is a treasure, and we must guard the gospel message against false teaching in the Church, in our homes, and in our personal lives.

-We must pass the faith on to the next generation and to those around us who do not yet know Jesus.

-God is always faithful, and we must respond to His faithfulness.

-We must refuse and reject things that would negatively influence us and draw us away from Christ, and we must hold one another accountable in pursuing Christ our Lord.

-We must not be ignorant to the fact that we live in shockingly sinful times. But we can take comfort that Jesus is still Lord, so we need only to trust and obey Him.

-The Bible will always lead us to right thinking, and thus right living, and in trusting God’s Word we will be able to fulfill God’s ministry purpose for our lives.

-And finally: the mark of a successful Christian is faithfulness, and though faithfulness may lead to isolation, the Lord is always with us and will rescue us from every evil (including death itself!).

Again, I hope you found this sermon series to be edifying to you in your walk with Christ. There are many challenges that face the 21st century Church. May God give us grace and wisdom to meet them all with the hope and truth of the gospel message!

On September 22nd at 4pm, in downtown Central City on the First State Bank grass lot, we will be having our annual Church Carnival and Picnic. This year we are hoping to use this event as an outreach opportunity for people who do not attend church to hear the gospel mes-sage. Rev. Doug King, Pastor of First Baptist Leitchfield,

hoping to use this event as an outreach opportunity for people who do not attend church to hear the gospel message. Rev. Doug King, Pastor of First Baptist Leitchfield, will be performing an exciting Christian Magic Show with a gospel presentation at the end. Please invite family, friends, and other locals to come be a part of this fun event as we seek to spread the good news about Jesus.

God bless you all! I’m looking forward to serving the Lord with you all this Fall! May God use us all to His glory.

In Christ, Pastor Chase

September means that school is back in full swing. Having lived in other areas before coming back home, I’m so grateful to minister to students in a school system that is open to the Gospel. So many of our teachers and administrators are active in their churches, the FCA groups at each school are strong, and the youth ministers are welcome to volunteer as well as make lunch visits. Our youth love the Praying Hands ministry on the wall beside the fellowship hall. They love knowing someone is praying for them each day and I continually remind them how much this church loves our students. If you haven’t already taken a name, please do so. I encourage you to reach out and get to know them more. The friendship built through this seemingly simple ministry can pay huge dividends in the years to come!

One of my favorite parts of September (besides my birthday on the 20th- hinty hint hint) is the return of our preschoolers. Things will be different this year without Sabrina Hooper who for years has faithfully led that ministry. I love hearing folks talk about how great our preschool has been and teachers who mention how kids who have been through our preschool are well prepared when they start kindergarten. This speaks volumes for the leadership Mrs. Sabrina has had in this ministry and we are so grateful! We will miss her as she and her big ole teddy bear of a husband, Larry, will be moving to South Carolina. She leaves that ministry in wonderful shape and we look forward to the new school year as Tracy Carver, Kay Mayes, and Lori Tatum continue to impact these young lives.

Fresh Start at the Greenville McDonalds is back under way. Each Tuesday morning, we leave the parking lot at 7:15am and join other students for breakfast and a devotion before busing all the kids to their schools. If your student in grades 6-12 hasn’t joined us yet, please give them a few bucks and send them our way.

The annual See You At The Pole will be Wednesday 9/25. We will have donuts and take you to school that morning as students meet at each campus for prayer around the flag pole. In Christ, Kevin
