“For it is in giving that we receive.” St Francis of Assisi
Dear Families,
On Friday we celebrate the work of students, parents and teachers
over the past 25 years. Friday will be a celebration of the commitment
of a community to build St. Francis of the Fields! All are welcome to
attend our celebrations.
Interestingly, Pope Francis chose to be called after St. Francis of
Assisi, “the man of poverty, the man of peace, the man who loves and
protects creation.”
I don’t think we could have a better patron saint!! I share with you
his/our prayer...
Prayer of St. Francis of Assisi
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
and where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be
consoled as to console,
to be understood as to understand,
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen.

Help needed - please! On Saturday 7th September I am seeking help at 2.00pm to pack away all furniture after the Cabaret the previous evening. This will allow our children access to shed for their sport. If we have a number of helpers this should take only a short period of time. Please help.
25 Year Celebrations - Friday 6th September Tomorrow we will be celebrating our schools 25th birthday with a number of activities. These include:
Blessing of the Animals - 9.15am We will be holding the Blessing of the Animals on Friday 6th September from 9.15am. I ask that our school
community once again bring their pets (cats, dogs, birds, guinea pigs, sheep, horses, fish, etc) to be blessed by Fr. Andrew.
To help with the safety of all animals and their owners we ask that parents are discerning in bringing animals that are compliant and able to socialize in a friendly manner. We also ask that parents are able to take their pets from school at the end of the service at 10.15am.
The liturgy will commence at 9.15am and be finished by 10.15am.
Blessing of our new St. Francis of Assisi statue: 9.50am
Two statues were purchased at the same time - one statue stands in the grounds of the Great Stupa and the other is standing in our foyer. Our statue of St. Francis was painted at school by local artist Terry Jarvis after consulting with Fr. Andrew about what he would have looked like.
Assisi Awards: 10.00am
Tomorrow, as part of the Blessing of the Animals, we will present our St. Francis of Assisi Awards. The criteria for students chosen to receive the St. Francis of Assisi Award was predicated on the words of St. Francis: “Preach the Gospel at all times and when necessary use words”. Two students (a boy and a girl) have been chosen from each year level that live out the Gospel in their everyday life. This is not an academic award but an acknowledgment for those students who strive for justice, are considerate of others, puts others before themselves, is a cheerful giver, believes in the goodness of others, and live the Good News!
Tours of our school: 10.15 - 11.00am
Tours of our school will be offered by Tim Moloney at 10.15am, directly after the Blessing of the Animals. All welcome.
Morning Tea: 11.00 - 11.30am
All visitors are welcome to attend the Community Centre for morning tea.
Fun activities: 11.30 - 1.30pm
A range of fun activities has been coordinated by our Year 6 students for all classes.
Lunch: 1.30 - 2.10pm
All children will be provided a free sausage sizzle for lunch. Thanks to our Parents & Friends community for providing the lunch! Thanks also to Fiona Thompson and Donna Stebbins for cooking the BBQ!

Please note that we will block the school road off till 3.15pm. By then we should have cleared all the seats from the road in front of our school.
Cabaret: 7.00pm - Midnight 25 years of community building will culminate in an evening of entertainment. Please arrive at around 7pm as we will hold speeches at 7.30pm (only short)! PE News…. Netball Victoria Championships Congratulations to our Grade 6 boys who played in the Netball Victoria School Championships. The team consisted of Raphael Guest, Gabe Guest, Rossi Stevens, Oliver Ryan, Jaidi Jackson Leahy, Spencer Ryan, Archie Edwards, Renn Manderson and Digby Parkinson. We started the day strong, winning against Croydon Hills PS (6-4) and St Augustine’s PS (13-3), then came up against St Mary’s Mooroopna. After a slow start, we came out in the last half and played out a draw. We really dug deep and levelled the score with seconds to spare. Our 4th match was against Tucker Rd PS. We had an easy win, scores being 15-3. We faced ladder leaders, St John Vianney, in the last round and found ourselves down by 6 at half time. We came out strong in the last, going down by only 1. We finished 2nd on the ladder after all the rounds and faced St Mary’s again in the semi’s, whom we drew with in round 3. This time we were ready for them and ended up playing an amazing game, winning 10-3. The Grand Final saw us play St John Vianney again, who’s only advantage was their 6-foot 3 Goal Shooter. Archie and Jaidi did a great job trying to stop him, but his height gave them an extra 5 points by half time. We stepped up again in the second half, and played an even last half, but it wasn’t enough to claw back the margins. Congratulations to all the boys. They played so well and represented the school with great pride and professionalism. Second in the state is a great achievement! Runners up in the Netball Victoria School Championships, Well done Boys!

Netball Finals started over the weekend and both our Grade 6a and U13b teams played.
St Francis Lions (U13b) playing a higher division against year seven aged players, finished 2nd on the ladder for the season rounds. This gave them the double chance, BUT our players proved too good and wont require the second chance, they played a fantastic game coming away with the win and placing themselves straight in to the GRANDFINAL to be played Saturday 14th September. St Francis Tigers (6a) have also had a stellar season, being extremely competitive while including three (3) new players to the sport, amazing stuff. They finished 4th on the season ladder. They made finals and played 3rd on the ladder over the weekend, they also came away with the win and got through to the Preliminary final to be played this Saturday. This is so fantastic as we are an inclusive club and we included players new to the sport at a competitive level, with amazing coaches, parents and students they have taken on the challenge and will be playing in a preliminary final for a Grand final berth in their first season. Well done also to the existing players that also took on the challenge of including new players with open arms. For anyone wanting to support the teams please check the BSNA (Bendigo Strathdale Netball Association) website for game times. GO ST FRANCIS !!!
