Honoring a Life Well Lived

SELECTIONS TO HELP CREATE A MEANINGFUL FUNERAL

Batesville’s Living Memorial® program, offered through our funeral home, is a unique and special way to honor the memory of a loved one. When you select a Batesville casket, container or a full size urn,* we arrange for a tree seedling to be planted in a national forest as a living tribute and memorial to the deceased – at no additional cost to you. Seedlings are planted by the U.S. Forest Service to re-establish woodlands destroyed by forest fires, blight and other natural disasters.

More than just a majestic memorial, these trees shelter wildlife, reduce water and wind erosion and contribute to the purity of the air we breathe, helping to improve the environment for generations to come. You will receive a special certificate that verifies a tree has been planted where the need is greatest.

The significance of a unique life is symbolized with the planting of a tree.

XXHistory & StaffHistory & Staff

We have years of experience caring for families from all walks of life. Each family comes to us because they know we are leaders in our profession, dedicated to excellence in service, and have the highest integrity.

When we sit down with a family, we have just one goal - to create a fitting, memorable and affordable service for their loved one. Together, we explore the wide variety of services and products available, as well as a wealth of creative ideas and suggestions.

Together, we’ll design a memorial or funeral service that suits their needs now and in the future. Families know that years from now, they will have peace-of-mind because in coming to us, they’ve done their best to honor their loved one.

First in Service for Five GenerationsFirst in Service for Five GenerationsIn 1905, John T. Finch founded what was to become the oldest business in the area. In Grit, Virginia, he hung out his shingle: “John T. Finch, Funeral Director.”

A few years later, he relocated the company to Altavista, and in 1931 his son-in-law, Hubert J. Finch, became an equal partner. Hubert and his wife, Virginia, established the present-day funeral home in 1951, brought their son Bob into the business in 1954, and continued to remodel and expand the facility to better serve the families of the area.

Bob’s son, Robert L. (Rob) Finch, Jr., is now president of the funeral home, and represents the fourth generation of the family to serve the community. After he joined the firm, the Finch family purchased the W.N. Flynn Funeral Home in Gladys, Virginia, then remodeled and expanded it to provide more convenience for visiting families. Rob’s son, Robert L. (Trey) Finch, III joined the firm in 2010 to represent the fifth generation of the Finch family.

Today, Finch & Finch Funeral and Cremation Service maintains the family tradition of offering exceptional value, attention to even the smallest detail, and caring, compassionate service to families in their time of need.

THINGS TO DO PRIOR TO THE FUNERAL1. Notify funeral home immediately of death.

2. Advise relatives, friends and neighbors.

3. Be prepared to provide your funeral director with information for a death certificate and/or obituary:

a. Decedent’s full name and address.

b. Date, time and place of death.

c. Birth date and birthplace.

d. Social security number.

e. Name of spouse, parents, children, and siblings; also the city and state in which they reside.

f. Number of grandchildren and great grandchildren; names may be listed if you wish.

g. Church, employment, clubs and organizations of membership.

h. Discuss preferred time and place of funeral service and burial with funeral director and clergy.

i. Veteran or military service? Branch?

j. United States Flag requested? If yes, locate discharge papers and present to your funeral director. They will be returned to you after a copy has been made.

k. Are military or fraternal rites desired?

l. Select a location to receive friends and family.

m. Memorial considerations.

4. Select newspapers to be used for the obituary.

5. Select and notify clergy to conduct the service.

6. Select casket or urn and outer burial container at funeral home and finalize arrangements.

7. Burial plot selected and its exact position.

8. Arrange for music and musicians, if desired.

9. Provide clothing. If not purchased through the funeral home, need full attire, shoes optional.

10. Inform the funeral home if a hairdresser is desired.

11. Provide jewelry (including glasses) to be worn. Inform funeral director if any should be removed and returned.

12. Order flowers, casket spray, etc., from your florist of preference.

13. Select and notify casket bearers (6 or 8 is most often satisfactory). Give list to your funeral director the night before the funeral (they should be at the location 20 minutes prior to the service and inform the director they have arrived.) If your family has selected a graveside service, you may choose not to use casket bearers.

14. How many certified copies of the death certificate are required? They will be needed to probate wills, insurance claims, individual bank accounts, stocks, bonds, etc. It usually takes 10 to 15 days to receive copies of the death certificate and they will be delivered as soon as they are received by the funeral home.

15. Select photos that represent the life of your loved one. We will present you with a special remembrance of your loved one’s life. Your pictures will be returned to you.

THINGS TO DO FOLLOWING THE FUNERAL1. Call or visit your Social Security Administration

office (Lynchburg Social Security, 866-964-6142, Danville Social Security, 866-331-5398). The funeral home sends Form SSA-721 (Statement of Death by the Funeral Director) and it should be received by them 3-5 days following death. They can then assist you in making claims for any benefits that may be available.

2. You may want to send “Acknowledgment Cards” to thank those friends who sent flowers, food or provided help in your time of need. These cards are available in selected memorial packages and additional quantities are available upon request.

3. If the deceased was a veteran, he/she may be eligible for a flag, marker, and other benefits. Please provide a copy of the discharge papers and your funeral director will assist you in working with the Department of Veteran Affairs.

4. If your family desires a family monument, headstone, foot marker, mausoleum, etc., a full selection is available. Please call or email Trey Finch with Finch Stone Monuments and Signs when you are ready to make that decision: 434-369-5621 or [email protected].

Payment PolicyOur funeral home is a small business and like many others in the community, out of necessity, we operate on a cash basis, relying upon the families we serve for prompt payment. We do not have sufficient financial resources to extend credit over a period of months or years, nor does law allow us to fulfill the functions of a bank or other lending institution. Therefore, we ask that all services must have financial arrangements for payment complete before any public announcement of funeral arrangements is made by the funeral home.

For your benefit and complete understanding of how funeral accounts are to be paid, we would like to provide you with this copy of our payment policy. We encourage your frank discussion of these matters with your funeral director, and we will attempt to assist you in any way possible.

Please let us know about any financial hardship that you have. We never refuse service to anyone based on their ability to pay. We can make suggestions that will lower your overall cost. Whatever service that is selected rest assured that you will receive the same high-quality service and attention to detail that is afforded to all the families that we assist.

Payment Options• Cash• Check• Credit/Debit Card• Pre-Paid Funeral Insurance*• Pre-Paid Funeral Trust*• Life Insurance*• If payment plans are needed, please ask your funeral director for eligibility requirements.

*Our acceptance of payment is dependent on the cooperation of the beneficiary and the funding company. An insurance policy or trust must be given to the funeral director for verification. We must have the funding Company’s complete cooperation in providing information on the beneficiary, amount of the death benefits available, outstanding loans information, cooperation to get claim forms in a timely manner, and their acceptance of our written assignment. The funding company or funeral home will send the balance of any insurance/trust proceeds directly to the beneficiary after the funding company pays the funeral bill in full from the proceeds of the insurance policy or trust. If the insurance policy or trust is not made available, nor can it be verified for the full amount of the funeral charges at the time of arrangements, then the buyer may have to choose one of the other mentioned payment options.

Note: Finch & Finch, Inc. Funeral & Cremation Service does not accept estate payments as a form of payment due the length of time for estate administration. Finch & Finch, Inc. Funeral & Cremation Service reserves the right to reject all forms of payment and requires cash in certain situations.

If you have any question about this policy or the funeral account or any other part of our services, please do not hesitate to ask. We are here to serve you and your family to the very best of our ability.

OUTER BURIAL CONTAINER PRICE LISTState or local law does not require that you buy a container to surround the casket in the grave. However, many cemeteries require that you have such a container so that the grave will not sink in. Either a grave liner or a burial vault will satisfy these requirements.

Warranties Disclaimer/Disclosure: Our funeral home makes no representations or warranties about the protective value of certain caskets and outer burial containers other than those made by the manufacturer. The only warranties, expressed or implied, granted in connection with goods sold with this funeral service are the express written warranties, if any, extended by the manufacturer thereof. No other warranties and no warranties of merchandising fitness of a particular product are extended by the seller.

These prices are effective as of March 16, 2021, but are subject to change without notice.
