BRIDPORT OPEN STUDIOS 2010Welcome to the annual event that celebrates our remarkable West Dorset art community: we are opening our doors once again!

This ever-evolving and blossoming event offers a compelling opportunity to view an impressive range of high quality art work, while at the same time exploring familiar and less familiar aspects of West Dorset.

You are invited to enter the dozens of studios and galleries centred in vibrant Bridport and it’s surrounding areas, from Abbotsbury to Charmouth, Beaminster to West Bay. You are encouraged to journey roads where panoramic views materialise like magical mirages, to tucked away villages and hamlets. Many artists are opening up their own homes where cooker tops and kitchen tables have acted as easels, and their houses have become personalized galleries.

On your travels, it will be easily understood why West Dorset is such a hub of creative activity and such an inspiration to artists in all fields.

Whatever your taste in art, there will be something to enjoy, commission or purchase.

A huge thanks to all those involved behind the scenes for making thisevent possible. Thanks to our sponsors: Dorset County Council, Bridport Town Council, Marshwood Vale Magazine, Bridport Arts & Crafts, Bridport Arts Centre, Huck Netts and Pineapple Business Park, as well as to all our supporters: Fergus Byrne for assist-ance with our catalogue, to the Bull Hotel for hosting our launch event, and to all the artists who have volunteered their time and help in other ways.

We hope you have an inspiring and uplifting weekend.

Over the past three years Kit Glaisyer has been developing a new form of landscape painting. Drawing from his Dorset childhood he engages the viewer on an emotional journey, creating a powerful evocation of light, space and atmosphere through a highly disciplined technique that references contemporary cinema, Dutch 17th century landscape painting and the Romantic tradition from Casper David Friedrich to Turner, Constable and the American Hudson River School.
