Wat is het ?

Diagnostiek= wat is het ?

• “Tissue is the issue”

• Weefseldiagnose is essentieel vooraleer behandeling kangestart worden

• Verschillende technieken :

• Bronchoscopie, echo-endoscopie, transthoracale punctie, bioptvan metastase, pleurapunctie, thoracoscopie, mediastinoscopie...

• Histologie (biopten) > cytologie (uitstrijkjes)

• Afweging maken tussen ‘invasiviteit’ (= risico’s) en ‘opbrengst’

• Pogen om ‘diagnostiek’ en ‘staging’ op elkaar af te stemmen

Stagering = waar zit het ?

Kanker opdelen in verschillende groepen op basis van verschillendestadia (stages → stagering) :

Overleving is hoger bij patiënten waar de ziekte nog lokaal is tov patiënten waar de ziekte reeds buiten het primaire orgaan te vinden is.

Observatie dat de overleving van zelfde histopathologische type van kanker afhankelijks is/was van de uitgebreidheid van de ziekte.

1.Clinicus helpen om een behandelingsplan op te stellen

2.Een idee geven omtrent prognose

3.Effect van behandeling beter evalueren.

4.Informatie-overdracht vergemakkelijken

5.Bevorderen wetenschappelijk onderzoek

This cancer registration contains minimally following parameters :

- 1933 : Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) founded

- Between 1943 and 1952, Pierre Denoix et al. develop “The TNM System for the classification of malignant tumours.”

- 1953 : UICC committee reaches general consensus for the use of the TNM-system for classification by anatomical extent.

- 1967 : WHO-publication of “Histological Typing of Lung Tumours” by Leiv Kreyberget al.

- 1968 : First edition of the UICC’s ”TNM Classification of Malignant Tumours.”

- 1974 : International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC) is founded

- 1974 (2nd) – 1978 (3rd) – 1987 (4th) – 1997 (5th) – 2002 6th edition of TNM Classification of Malignant Tumours.

- Since 1990: massive data collection by IASLC of over 100.000 lung cancer cases across the globe, thus guaranteeing a major role for IASLC in formulating the 7th

edition.

- 2009: first complete site-specific guide for TNM classification of thoracic malignancies (by IASLC) coordinated with the 7th edition of the TNM Classification of Malignant Tumors (UICC and AJCC).

- 2016: 8th edition of the TNM Classification for Lung Cancer, based entirely on proposals by the IASLC.
