September Board of Trustees Meeting The TMRS Board of Trustees met on September 26 and 27, 2019, in Austin. The Board: Authorized contract negotiations to hire Hudepohl & Associates, Inc. to assist in the search for an Executive Director to replace David Gavia, who has announced his retirement for next May Considered proposed amendments to the Board bylaws and other governance documents relating to Board officers and committees Considered possible changes in the way that investment managers may be approved and terminated, to provide more flexibility while retaining Board oversight Heard a presentation from consulting actuary GRS on the 2019 Actuarial Experience Investigation Study Heard a presentation from investment consultant RVK and adopted a new asset allocation target Approved a $50 million allocation to the Private Equity portfolio and three $125 million allocations to the Absolute Return portfolio Received the final report regarding the TMRS Pension Administration System Assessment Heard an annual review of the Absolute Return asset class Discussed the continuation of a Board/Committee work plan Received two audit reports from Internal Audit that followed up on prior audit recommendations Heard a presentation on the current work of the TMRS Information Resources department The next meeting of the Board will be October 31 and November 1 at the TMRS headquarters in Austin. Annual Seminar Hotel Deadline Coming Soon! Sign up now for the 2019 TMRS Annual Seminar, “Retirement Roundup.” Book your hotel room by October 8 to take advantage of the seminar group rate of $209! The two-and-a-half day event will be held from the evening of November 3 through noon of November 5 at the JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort and Spa , 23808 Resort Parkway, San Antonio. In addition to a great lineup of expert speakers, you’ll get updates on legislation, investments, actuarial, security, and member service issues. The event webpage shows the schedule, bios of speakers, and other details. Our Monday night dinner and outing will be a visit to the historic Knibbe Ranch – get ready for western entertainment and Texas barbecue! New Cities Special Offer – If your city joined TMRS within the past four years, you are invited to attend the event free of charge (your registration fee is waived, but you will need to pay for your room, if needed). When you sign up, choose the New TMRS Member City option. Get your complimentary registration here . Payroll Special Offer – If your city has not been using the City Portal to upload your monthly payroll to TMRS and you begin using it between now and November 1, we will waive the $125 registration fee for the TMRS Annual Seminar. Presentations will cover TMRS plan design, legislation, investments, and actuarial funding. Each of these free sessions lasts approximately 2.5 hours, with a light breakfast and lunch served. The TMRS Board of Trustees met on September 26 and 27, 2019, in Austin. The Board:

A two-page story on the changes was distributed to members in theINSIGHT newsletter, to retirees in the RetirementWise magazine, and to the public, posted onthe Legislative page of the TMRS website. These changes will go into effect January 1, 2020,with the exception of one change that becomes effective January 1, 2022.

If your city’s decision-makers want to compare options for future plan changes, they maycontact the Actuarial Services department, a Regional Manager, City Support AnalystVeronica Escobedo, or Deputy Executive Director Eric Davis.
