THE NEW MBUSA MEMBER REBATE PROGRAM

Executive Director's Message

MBCA has partnered with Mercedes-Benz USA to bring a new Member Rebate program. Active primary members are eligible for exclusive savings, in some cases up to $3,000 on 2020 models, on the lease or purchase of select Mercedes-Benz vehicles. The rebate incentives are available only for qualified customers on certain 2019 and 2020 Mercedes-Benz models.

This new member benefit is available immediately upon joining the club. Current primary members can take instantaneous advantage of the Member Rebate program. If you're exploring the lease or purchase of a new Mercedes-Benz, be sure to mention the Mercedes-Benz Club of America fleet program to your Mercedes-Benz dealer to see if you qualify for any savings.

If you qualify, then you will need to present to the dealer a control number that is specific to you. You can get a control number by signing into your member account (https://www.mbca.org/user/login) and clicking on the Member Rebate artwork located on your member profile page. Scroll down towards the bottom of the page and click on the red Generate MBUSA Rebate Number button. Give this number to your dealer.

The control number is valid for the current calendar year and expires on the last day of the year and is only valid for one deal. After the control number expires, active primary members can create a new number for the following calendar years.

The Member Rebate incentives are updated each month. To view current savings, visit https://www.mbca.org/mbusa-incentives.

The Member Rebate program is replacing the MBCA Loyalty Rewards program. The MBCA Loyalty Rewards program is no longer offered and is being replaced with this more improved Member Rebate benefit.

Virtual Car Show No one anticipated the challenges that 2020 has faced. Plans to attend events has been derailed. One of our passions, talking cars and sharing stories with other like-minded members, is no longer occurring on the field, track, or section events.

However, the Social Media Committee, Chaired by Andrew Opicka from the Wisconsin Section, swiftly crafted a plan to launch MBCA's first-ever virtual car show. Committee members worked quickly to make this event successful and received over 600 entrants. Congratulations to the Social Media Committee on hosting a great online event. A special shout out to Meg Lea (Minnesota Section), Wesley Wormser (Southern Stars Section), David Abbarr (Portland Section), Jaime Kopchinski (New Jersey Section), and Ralf Weiser (Delaware Valley Section) for hosting the first MBCA virtual car show. Job well done.

To all of our volunteers who give so much to elevate to our passion, thank you. MBCA wouldn't be what it is without you

ESCONDIDO GRAND AVENUE SOCIAL DISTANCING CRUISE S. Ross

Friday afternoon, June 5 in spite of the challenges of the times we are experiencing, a bunch of car folks, including the Mercedes-Benz Club, Packard Club, AACA and others got together and had a cruise and yes we stayed within the spirit of the law. Was it fun, HELL YES! In fact, after the cruise everyone hung around and visited wearing masks and and/or maintaining a six foot distance.

JUAN FANGIO’S FIRST RACE CAR S. Ross

According to the brochure, at the 2010 Gooding Auction, describing this 1939 Chevy as one of Juan Fangio’s first race cars. Fangio is one of the top race car drivers of the Twentieth Century, a five time world champion, a record which stood for forty six years until broken by Michael Schumacher who currently holds the word record. Upon retirement Fangio became the honorary chairman of Mercedes-Benz of Argentina. The apparent modifications are two carburetors and the spec sheet said it developed 110hp at 3400 rpm so it must have been close to stock. Interesting feature of this car is that it is a right hand drive. The car sold for $165,000 at the 2010 Gooding Auction. A car looking very similar is in the Fangio Museum in Argentina.

Fangio began his racing career in 1936 driving a modified Model A Ford, He raced a Ford V8 once and then moved to Chevrolet.

Fangio began his racing career on dirt tracks in Argentina. He was a trained mechanic and could have had a career playing soccer.

Auto Renew is Here, Opt-in Today! By

Doug Geganto, National Membership Chair

COVID 19 has totally disrupted our lives and many of the activities we’ve become accustomed to doing. Things like getting together with our friends, enjoying attending section events and getting out and meeting with fellow club members. However, one thing that has been severely affected is our ability to meet other Mercedes-Benz owners, tell them about the club and encourage them to join. We expect new member growth to be severely impacted this year because of our inability to host recruiting events. How can you help ensure that we stabilize our membership losses?

Have you opted into Auto-Renew yet? When it’s time to renew your membership, it’s now easier than ever. Simply log into your MBCA account, select the Renew link at the top of the page and click on the Yes button in the renew section. Your best deal is to renew for 3-years. That’s all there is to it!

Why Auto-Renew? ● Never worry about your membership lapsing. ● Don’t miss an issue of the Star® Magazine. ● Stay informed of local section and national events via your local section’s

newsletter and the national Click announcements. ● Have a chance to participate on one of our annual Germany trips to visit Mercedes-

Benz headquarters in Stuttgart. ● Have a chance at winning a new Mercedes-Benz by participating in our annual

raffles. ● Lastly, by having your membership Auto-Renew each year, you help the club stay

financially sound and help to stabilize our membership losses. Our Auto-Renew option is new this year. Our goal for 2020 is to have 50 to 75 percent of our members sign up for Auto-Renew. Right now, we’re at 5 percent with 831 members who have already signed up. We need your help to reach our goal this year by signing up for Auto-Renew today.

That’s it. If you have any problems opting in or questions, contact the NBO at 1800- 637-2360, and a member representative will be happy to assist you in getting enrolled. I encourage you to sign up for Auto- Renew today.

Thank you for being a member of the Mercedes-Benz Club of America.

MBCA San Diego Section

http://sandiego.mbca.org Happy Fourth of July! The words “All men are created equal“ have been echoed throughout our history, however I think we can agree that doesn't hold true for cars! Not all cars are created equal! We share our love for the Mercedes-Benz knowing they are well-built, reliable and an all-in-all great ride.

Did you know that approximately 150 million hot dogs are consumed by Americans on the 4th of July each year? If lined up, that number of hot dogs could stretch from Washington D.C. to Los Angeles more than five times! That is a total of about 13,344 miles! Road trip! Maybe an event for next year??

I am looking forward to seeing everyone on July 26th for the Driving Tour and Picnic. Have a Happy and safe 4th of July and don’t eat too many hot dogs!
