Radon is the leading environmental cause of lung cancer. It can enter buildings from the ground and accumulate to high concentrations in homes, schools and workplaces. The Health Canada radon guideline is 200 Bq/m3, above which remediation measures should be taken. Radon levels can change quickly and randomly within a building.

VICTORIA™ radon alarm is the first real time device that will alert occupants when radon levels exceed the Health Canada guideline of 200 Bq/m3. When activated, the alarm emits a short audible warning with a flashing LED.

When the VICTORIA™ alarm alerts that the radon level is above 200 Bq/m3 In some instanc-es it may be sufficient to simply increase ventila-tion of the indoor space by opening a window. In many circumstances, however, it will indicate the need for installation of a radon mitigation system like the RADOSTAT™ which, integrated into any active ventilation system, will automati-cally maintain the radon level below 150 Bq/m3.

VICTORIA™ and RADOSTAT™ real-time radon protection

RADOSTAT™ constantly monitors indoor radon levels using the same silicium sensor detector technology as the VICTORIA™. This technology allows the RADOSTAT to anticipate radon peaks by activating even at low levels to prevent radon accumulation. This feature makes it a highly efficient system by only operating as needed to maintain radon concentrations below 150 Bq/m3.

Active systems are also the most effective and reliable solution to protect against an excessive presence of radon indoors. RADOSTAT™ functions in two ways: it pilots any existing ventilation system to exhaust radon gas out, and it operates a simple fan to create a slight positive pressure in the room, keeping gas from coming in.

VICTORIA™ and RADOSTAT™ provide the latest in indoor air quality radon protection, screening and monitoring your indoor air quality continuously.

Radon pathways into and out of a dwelling. The Health Canada radon guideline is 200 Bq/m3, above which remediation measures should be taken to dilute radon in the air.

Radon is a potentially lethal radioactive gas that you cannot see, smell or taste. It is created from the decay of uranium, present in rock, soil and water. Radon levels are variable in indoor air, and can change quickly and randomly within a building.

VICTORIA™ real-time radon protection

VICTORIA™ is the first warning device to instantly alert to an excessive indoor radon level and prevent exposure in a home, school or workplace.

This is the latest nuclear dynamic sensor technology developed by AYKOW, a French company specializing in nuclear detectors and automatic systems to miti-gate radon in dwellings. AYKOW and Radon Environmental partnered to bring the VICTORIA™ and RADOSTAT™ devices to Canada.

Thanks to a patented technology, VICTORIA™ detects radon continuously and informs the user with a sound and visual alarm when the radon concentration exceeds the maximum threshold advised by Health Canada. It is a discreet and economical device that effectively helps people by protecting them from radon radiation.

The International Agency for Research on Cancer classifies radon as a known human carcinogen. The World Health Organization states that “no safe level of exposure can be determined,” a position confirmed by the US National Academies of Science. When inhaled into the lungs, radon causes cellular DNA damage.

The most optimistic reports estimate 3,200 deaths each year in Canada are due to radon-induced lung cancer. Radon is the leading cause of lung cancer among non-smokers.

• latest patented nuclear sensor technology

• calibrated for accuracy• real-time dynamic detection• discreet design• reliable and accurate• wireless, battery operated• high sensitivity at 200 Bq/m3

• automatic, no setting required• 2 year warranty

An innovative device, VICTORIA™ was conceived to instantly detect radon exclusively. It does not measure an average of all radon decay products over several days. This feature sets VICTORIA™ apart from other radon detectors, offering an immediate alert when radon levels exceed the Health Canada guideline of 200 Bq/m3. In this way, VICTORIA™ operates much like a carbon monoxide detector.

Dynamic detection is the only way to effectively address and manage indoor radon. If the VICTORIA™ alarm activates, a simple solution is to dilute the radon in indoor air by opening windows 5-15 minutes. If the alert is frequent, this may indicate the need for a radon mitigation system with the assistance of a certified radon professional.

Long term exposure to radon is the leading cause of lung cancer after smoking. The VICTORIA™ is an affordable and reliable solution to effectively protect your health.

VICTORIA™ is recognized and tested by leading nuclear authorities and laboratories: the French scientific nuclear laboratory GANIL, Public Health England, the Federal Office of Public Health of Switzerland, the Paul Scherrer Institute laboratory in Switzerland, and the European Organization for Technical Assessment.

RADOSTAT™ responsive active protection

The RADOSTAT™ is the first instrument to be specifically designed to pilot any active ventilation system for radon elimination. It continuously detects and monitors indoor air for the presence of radon gas, and activates the dwelling air intake supply to prevent radon peaks above 150 Bq/m3.

Active systems are the most practical and economical way to address high radon levels in dwellings. RADOSTAT™ operates in two ways: by effectively creating an anti-radon barrier to keep radon gas out, and mitigating any existing gas through a process of dilution with new air.

RADOSTAT™ utilizes high performance radon mitigation technology and is integrated into an existing building design.

VICTORIA™ and RADOSTAT™ are manufactured by AYKOW, a French company specializing in nuclear detectors and automatic systems to mitigate radon in dwellings and public places. AYKOW received the 2010 award for innova-tion by the French Ministry of Research.

RADOSTAT™ responds in real-time to the amount of radon detected. It utilizes the same patented nuclear dynamic sensor technology as the VICTORIA™, and, like the VICTORIA™, is calibrated for accuracy.

This mitigation technology pilots any active ventilation system. It also operates its different speeds – low power, medium and full power – according to the radon level detected. Even at 50 Bq/m3, the RADOSTAT™, when integrating into the dwelling ventilation system, will launch the ventilation for a few seconds to prevent indoor radon accumulations. If a peak of 150 Bq/m3 is detected, RADOSTAT™ will operate the system at full power to ensure the indoor radon level remains below 150 Bq/m3. This is a feature of a smart, active mitigation system. The RADOSTAT™ does not wait for the risk to happen; instead it anticipates a hazard and responds when there are signs of a possible threat.

In addition to exhausting radon gas out, the RADOSTAT™ also prevents radon gas entry. It connects to a simple fan to create a slightly positive pressure in the room, keeping radon gas from coming indoors.

The RADOSTAT™ is designed to be fitted into a wall. It can be plugged into the ventilation device directly or via an automated home control system. More informa-tion regarding installation may be found in the installation guide, available on our website www.radoncorp.com.

Helping manage risk

We spend 80% of our time indoors, and particularly in our bedrooms and living rooms.VICTORIA™ may be placed in the bedrooms, living rooms, and play areas. To control and detect any concentration of radon in the water supply, you may also place detec-tion devices in bathrooms and kitchens. This is particularly important if your water installation is connected to a municipal or local well. Radon is soluble in water and enters the air upon opening water faucets. Note that bathrooms being a small space, the radon concentrations can be high.

Basements are also priority zones because it is a site where radon often accumulates. Due to pressure differentials between the indoor air and soil beneath the foundation, a home can act like a vacuum, sucking radon gas indoors.

RADOSTAT™ must be installed first in the basement, or lowest level of the dwelling. It will put the basement under positive pressure if connected with ventilation. Even slight pressure is sufficient to prevent any rise towards the first floor. Coupled with indoor ventilation, it will effectively manage radon levels above 150 Bq/m3.
