  • The vision behind the Mother Vine was to create a courtyard installation that created spi-rals and curves of varying sizes throughout the yard, creating a modular design, providing mo-ments of shade, distilled light, moments that direct circulation and create spaces and pro-gram, and also moments that create seating and tables. The forms act as large vines and grown from walls and floors. As the large vines hit the floor, they branch out into smaller forms, creating more private experiences and also seating and tables for zones such as the beer garden or the beach zone. The material of the actu-al installation would be metal poling combined with weather proof, durable white fabric.

  • - The vision behind this project was to create a distinct separation be-tween the spaces of production and the spaces of representation and have them meet and transition at the point of the sculpture garden, situated be-tween the two blocks. The represen-tation L shaped block holds public and educational spaces such as the caf, reception, exhibition and auditorium while the larger block tower holds the private studio and office spaces. The idea behind the wave-like exterior was to create this appearance of a climb-ing/spiraling upward smooth flow of circulation, which is what is actually happening within the tower, as each level holds its own set of studios. This also allows each space to receive unique moments of natural light. The entire structure is built from layers of steel and glass, rectangular spaces rotated at various degrees.

  • - The playful form chosen for this educational institution, the form of the infinity symbol, was used to emulate the notion that knowledge is limitless through education. End-less, as is the flow of the symbol itself. The continuous flowing form embodies the idea of the endless accumulation of knowledge through ones life time. The infinity symbol form represents the link, or for better word, the unbreakable bond between the gain of knowledge through the potential and power of education, and therefore, the phrase learning is infinite, educa-tion never stops is expressed in the infinity symbol form of the school. The form of the building also allows for a continuous, free-flowing cir-culation within, allowing students to reach the numerous floors at each end of the building.

    - As indicated by the parti di-agram, the vision behind the design of this project was to introduce modular living to New Yorks public housing program. This was achieved by creating a vertical core (indi-cated in red in the diagram) that acts as a structural piece to the building that each pre-fabricated unit is attached to. This structural core piece also acts as a private interior cir-culation for each apartment as most are multiple floor units. The core also acts as a means of plumbing, housing modular compartments such as kitchen, storage or bath-room. The units thicker walls create opportunity for addi-tional storage space and fold-out furniture.

    - Envisioning the future: There were four primary objectives/issues that were focused on in this project. These objec-tives were: the waterfront park space, a park to connect the neighborhood to the waterfront, to create an attraction for sport, site-seeing, and conven-tions, for New Yorkers and vis-itors, boosting economic value to the surrounding area. Flood-ing and sea level rise: to create a levee barrier and to filtrate the incoming east river water. Urban Farming: the production of fresh/organic food, supply-ing and distributing locally and internationally boosting eco-nomic growth to the area. Pub-lic Transportation: connecting a public train service from close by MTA subway stations.
