WHY BIO-SEABASING?

It is at sea, « le futur de la planète », that can be developed

pacific and sustainable solutions to fresh water, energy, food

and raw material supply, which will be challenging around

the world in a near future.

With less than 5% of species farmed today, the marine

environment can be considered as a very rich potential

innovation source.

Thanks to renewable energy, in ten years from now it will be

possible to settle on open sea high technology floating bases

with autonomous energy, capable of accommodating

industrial activities and services.

A GENERIC APPROACH

The main reason to move offshore is to get better operating

environment, developing original synergies based on

clustering presently independent processes linked to sea

resources:

Mutualised CAPEX & OPEX & Insurance

Co-products, waste and CO2 Valorisation

Logistical Flow concentration

Shorten Lead time

Optimised Waste & Pollution control

The Maritime Versatile Floating Base Concept

Generic & Modular

A FAVORABLE CONTEXT

The economic contexte wich looks for projects of investments at

sea and the already initiated projects act for the launch in 2014 of a

flotting base for sustainable aquaculture feasability study :

The spanish government and the Canaries region have already

launched the Plocan project aiming at setting up a multi-purpose

plateform oriented towards aquaculture, desalination and tourism.

The FAO recommands to speed up the development of offshore

production of proteine coming from the sea with the imperative goal

of effective production in 2030.

This project is, in the frame of the carbone saving process put in

place to fight global warming, a new solution to CO2 valuation.

This project comes in the scope of the general study project name d

TROPOS – project lauched by Plocan- supported by Europe within

the Framework programme 7 (FP7) and the CORICAN (orientation

concil for research and innovation in the field of naval construction

and naval activities) roadmap.

THE PROJECT PRESENTATION

Era-net MARTEC has launched a call (named MARTEC II) for

proposals (with the 04/30/2013 deadline), aiming at valuing

the maritime technologies with among others the offshore

structures, aquaculture, renewable marine energies, security

and safety at sea.

In this context the BIO SEABASING consortium wants to

develop a new aquaculture approach enabling maritime

biomass production on open sea, in a sustainable way with

the possibility of valuaing it, at sea, for the foodprocessing

industry, plant chemistry sector, bio material as well as

energy in secured and safe conditions.

THE BIO-SEABASING CONSORTIUM

The consortium gather complementary parteners in

accordance with MARTEC requirements, able to contribute to

the elaboration of a prototype around 2020 with an

incremental approach :

Feasability study in 2014, within FP7/MARTEC II call,

- Cost order of magnitude 1M€

Detailed study in 2016, within FP8 framework

- Cost order of magnitude 10 M€

Prototype building between 2018 and 2020

- Cost order of magnitude 100 M€

The French part of the consortium includes CEVA, DCNS and

PFI Nouvelles Vagues and the Spanish part of the consortium

includes, PLOCAN and TINAMENOR
