Climate change’s relation to wastewater
• Reduced precipitation -drought
• Long periods without precipitation followed by extreme strong flash rains
• Increase of average temperature
• Phosporus problems in the plant in parallel phosporusproblem in the world
Impact of the dry period on the sanitation system
• Accumulation of solid waste sediments and incrustation in sewerage conduits that can cause its clogging
• Water rotting in the system attended bybad sedimentationcapacity
• Inflow wastewater will be more dense
Impact of the storms and heavy rains on the sanitation system
• Larger body of water will arrive at the sites
• More TSS content
• More aeration is needed
Increasing air temperature affects processes of UWWT
• Warm wastewaterincreases the bacterial reaction rate which reduces the density of settled sludge
• Lower oxygen solubility in warmer water cause higher consumption of compressed air in biological treatment

Solutions
• Periodically clean pipelines / roads
• New facilitiesspearate storm waterfrom wastewater
• Green rooftops
Phosporus removal
• Phosphorus is an irreplaceable building block in all living cells
• Phosphorousremoval from wastewater can be a source of phosphorous recovery in long term
How we reduce footprint at BCWWTP 1/2
• Covered and ventilated process structures• Extracted air treated by biological and
chemical odour treatment units• Architecture and Landscaping fits to
surrounding area (70% of the surface area is GREEN)
• Biogas used for energy production and heating (by termophilic digestion)
• Solar powered water heater in the office building
How we reduce footprint atBCWWTP 2/2
Reduced footprint due to the technology:
• Primary Treatment: (lamellar primary settler)
• Biological Treatment:Anaerobic zone under the clarifier
