Dear Coulson Tough Families,
Thank you so much for all of your support for our
PTO Boosterthon! The kids really seemed to love
the Glow Run!
We had several DI teams compete this past
weekend and are so proud of how well all our
teams performed! Way to go DI teams!
This month we have several wonderful author
visits that we know the children in 4th, 5th and
6th grades will enjoy! If you have a 1st grader,
you won’t want to miss the Reading Restaurant
and our 2nd grade play is right around the
corner! We have a busy few weeks leading up
to Spring Break and look forward to seeing you
for one of the many events!
Sincerely,
Shawn Creswell

New Box Tops for Education
There is now an app with which we can earn
additional money for Coulson Tough through
the Box Tops for Education program.
To get started, download the app, create a
profile and select Coulson Tough as your
school. Look on the app for offers that will
earn more box tops for the school, select the
offers you will be redeeming and then once
you have made your purchase, take a
picture of your receipt. Once the box tops
and receipt have been verified, the money
will go into the CT account.
The Box Tops flyer was sent home in your
child’s folder earlier this month. We want to
help make it easy for you to earn money for
CT with the products you are already
purchasing.
NEXT DEADLINE to turn in box tops is this
Friday, February, 24.
It is time to start nominating people for the PTO
Board and committee positions for the 2017-
2018 school year. No experience is necessary,
just a desire to help make Coulson Tough the
best school and environment for our students
and staff.
There are several committee positions
available. Please let the PTO know your area of
interest. For more information, contact
Heather Pine ([email protected]).
Cell Phones in Car Rider Line
Please remember talking on cell phones while in
the car rider line is prohibited. CISD Officer
Margaret will begin issuing tickets for any further
violations. The safety of our students is of utmost
importance to all of us.
Titan Book Share
The spring trip to Conroe for the Titan Book
Share will be here before we know it. We are
continuing to collect new and slightly used
books for this biannual activity. Books can be
given to home base teachers or dropped off in
Mrs. Stiles’ room.
PTO Board Nominations
We are excited to let you know that Coulson
Tough Elementary has a new website. We hope
you enjoy exploring! It is located at
tough.conroeisd.net . If you have any questions,
please contact the campus webmaster at

Technology Expo
Coulson Tough will be hosting our first annual
Technology Expo on March 9, 2017 from
3:30pm-5:00pm in the library and computer
lab. Stop by and learn what the students in
our Python and Junior Robotics
Club have been learning. There
will be lots of little robots running
around for some hands-on
experiences.
Important Information
To report an absence for your child, please call the front
office at 281-465-5900. When your child returns to school,
a note explaining the reason for the absence should be
sent to the teacher or brought to the front office. School
attendance is a major indicator of student success.
Please schedule vacations during holidays and make
every effort to schedule appointments after school.
Attendance letters will be sent in accordance with CISD
policy. Students must be present 90% of all school days to
be promoted to the next grade. Students should attend
school every day unless ill.
MORNING HOURS
ATTENDANCE
Announcements begin @ 8:00am and school begins at
8:05am. Students should not arrive before 7:35am at which
time they may go to the Commons. Students go to their
classrooms at 7:45am and class activities begin.
TUTORING
If your child is scheduled for morning tutoring or
enrichment, he or she must enter the building through
the front doors.
TARDY/LATE ARRIVAL
Students arriving to school after 8:05am are considered
tardy. Students must stop at the front desk for a tardy
pass. A parent should come into the school with the
student to sign him/her in for the day. A student is
considered absent if they arrive after 9:00am. If your child
is arriving late to school due to a health care
appointment, please come into the front office with your
child and provide the doctor’s note to ensure your child’s
attendance can be changed to “HCP” for “Health Care
Professional” which is Present.
VISITOR PARKING
Birthday treats must be store bought due to allergy, safety
and sanitation concerns. All items must be pre-cut. Most
grades share these treats with the class the last 10 minutes
of their lunch period. Please email your child’s teacher to
verify the best time. Balloons and flowers are not
permitted in the building.
PARENT LUNCH TABLE
We have a table set up specifically for parents and their
children to sit together. Friends are not permitted to sit
with your child at the parent table. A parent plus two
others is the maximum number who can come join a
student for lunch due to space limitations in our cafeteria.
MEDICATION AT SCHOOL
A parent or guardian must bring medication and sign it
into the clinic. All medication must be in the original con-
tainer and properly labeled. TRANSPORTATION CHANGES
All transportation changes must be received in writing with
parent/guardian’s signature to your child’s teacher in their
blue folder. Please limit any other changes after the day
begins to emergencies and contact the front office prior
to 2:00pm.
SEVERE WEATHER DISMISSAL
At the beginning of school, parents completed a Severe
Weather Dismissal Procedures form indicating how their
child would go home in the event of Severe Weather.
During periods of rain, biker/walkers will be released as
normal. When the area is under a severe weather threat
(this includes lightning/thunder) as determined by the
National Weather Service, a “Severe Weather Dismissal”
will be called. Please register for Remind 101. You will be
notified by text when there is a Severe Weather Dismissal.

BIRTHDAY TREATS
Visitor parking is located in the large parking lot off of
Crane Brook Drive. Please do not park in the front of the
building or in the fire lanes.
To parents of 5th and 6th grade BOYS AND GIRLS:
A film will be presented on Friday, March 10, 2017 to the 5th and 6th grade boys and girls titled
“Introduction to Growth and Development” (which includes limited information on the reproduc-
tive system). The 5th and 6th grade presentation meets educational requirements from the state and therefore a
permission slip to attend is not required. If you DO NOT wish to have your child attend this course you must
submit that request in writing to the teacher and the nurse.
Please note: this instruction is done separately for boys and girls.
DATE OF 5th PARENT PREVIEW: (office of Becky Stiles, counselor, Room 306)
Friday, March 3 Girls 5th: 9:45 – 10:30 am Boys 5th: 10:30 – 11:00 am
Due to time constraints, and since the
5th and 6th grade films contain similar material,
there will NOT be a scheduled 6th grade Parent Preview.
Any 6th grade parent is welcome to attend the 5th grade preview.
You may also read a copy of the TRANSCRIPT for
5th and 6th grade girls and boys if unable to attend the preview.
If you have questions, or would like to read the script,
please call the nurse at 281-465-5905.
Please RSVP to the school nurse (just for an estimate of space needed)
if you plan to attend the preview.
You may either call 281-465-5905 or
email the Nurse Cyndi at [email protected].
If unable to attend the preview, the nurse can provide a transcript of the film.
I highly encourage parents to preview the film
and join in the discussion!!
To parents of 4th grade GIRLS:
Each year the school nurse presents an informative video and talk about growth and development and hy-
giene. This presentation includes a discussion regarding the changes that the girls encounter as they begin to
reach puberty. Hopefully, this talk will help answer any questions and concerns that they may have. Your
daughter should bring home a permission slip this week. If you do not want your child to par ticipate,
or if you want to preview the film first, just write that on the permission slip and return it. I want to welcome
any 4th grade parent or guardian to PREVIEW THE VIDEO at the following time:
