General guidelines for preparation for PIT-PI

Some details about the PIT (Pre Interview Test) for HRM&LR (Tentative Info):

1) It would be an essay round and NOT A Group Discussion.

2) The PIT is going to be on the same morning as your interview. (Something like at 9 you have

PIT and then at 11 odd your interviews begin.)

3) It would be a 35 minute essay and would be for 50 marks.

4) It would give the option of writing an essay from 4 topics, 2 from social issues and 2 from

Business or current affairs or something.

5) You need to write it and submit it. The results would be out with your Interview results!

(These are tentative info and can be changed too... but more or less would be the same).

Some pointers for applicants of all courses:

a) Stick to the basics. Do not over-prepare/under-prepare. Focus on general preparations asof now. You will have enough time to focus on specifics later on.

b) Start reading as much of the current topics/current affairs as you can. Try and look atboth the sides of the coin in case of debatable topics. This will help you develop a

balanced perspective, something that is very much required for the next round.c) I personally liked the editorials of The Indian Express and The Economic Times. I am

NOT recommending any of these. The point I am trying to make is you should read at

least one general and one business-related newspaper.

d) Try and know slightly about the social issues also. Why are government schemes asuccess/failure and what can be done to improve them or replicate their success in a

particular state pan-India. This is not something very important but it would help if you

can do it.

e) A decent vocab is good enough. Remember, you are not going to appear for GRE orTOEFL. Many a time, aspirants make a mistake of focusing too much on vocab that it

turns off the person who is evaluating the paper. Your job is to make is life easy and not

more difficult than it actually is.

f) One oft-asked question in interviews iswhich was your favorite subject in graduation.This is followed by questions from that subject. So, if you have a feeling that you are

going to make the cut, you might want to start preparing on the same.

g) Irrespective of whatever you feel about your results, consider this time to be anopportunity to introspect. If not now, if not at other places, it will certainly help you some

time or the other in life. Learn more and more about yourself. This includes (but is not

limited to):

a.

Strengths and weaknessesb. Hobbiesc. Short-term and long-term goalsd. Describing yourself in a few sentencese. A problem that you faced in the past and how did you overcome itf. Why a particular specialization (the one you have opted for)?g. Why TISS (or any other institute you might have applied to)?

And the list goes on. Try and reflect as much on the past as you can.

h) Do not worry too much about the expected cut-off and your chances. You have givenwhat you could. Now, keep your fingers crossed and hope for the best.

A few things to remember:

Please circulate this document as much as you can so that we dont have repetitivequeries. At the very minimum, please circulate this in the various Google groups that you

might have formed during the preparation phase.

Please refrain from asking what your chances are as per your score according to certainkey/s released by coaching institute/s. No one can answer that question as of now. It is

better to avoid it now (however difficult it might be).

We will be coming with more details once the shortlists are announced. However, offlate, we have been receiving really simple queries. This is not to make a quality judgment

about any one. All we mean to say isplease do your homework properly before asking

your query. Please understand that we have a tight schedule to adhere to and it becomes

really difficult to answer all the queries.

We will also try our best and get students from other courses to participate in the processso as to give you all more clarity. However, this would be purely voluntary and would

depend entirely on the readiness of students from other programs.
