January Worship Series

“The Body” Pastor Mike Dyrdal

One of the best pictures we have for the church is that it is the “Body of Christ” at work in the world today. It is declared so in New Testament passages such as Romans 12:5; 1 Corinthians 10 & 12, Ephesians 4 & 5; Hebrews 13:3, and Colossians 1: 24.

We just celebrated Christmas and Jesus coming in human flesh and blood to demonstrate God’s love setting in motion God’s plan for transforming the world. And the followers of Jesus are called to continue His work by owning the same mission of Jesus’ in the world today.

To gain clarity about our purpose as the Body of Christ, during January we will be exploring what Jesus did while he was here physically on earth. If we are the Body of Christ in the world today, we probably ought to be concerned about doing the same things He did. Others who have undertaken this investigation in the past have discovered three things that stand out about Jesus’ interactions with people:

1. Jesus was always inviting people to come and follow Him. Inviting

2. He was always teaching to increase wisdom and faith in people. Discipling

3. He was always relieving suffering and bringing healing to people. Healing Hurts

The Challenge of This Worship Series

I’m excited we will be exploring these aspects of Jesus’ work each Sunday in worship. But I also want to challenge you to go on a Scriptural “treasure hunt” of your own. Would you take the challenge to carefully read one of the Gospels on your own this month? The Gospels are the first four books of the New Testament, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. They tell the story of Jesus’ life and show His interactions with people. Please take time to carefully read one of these Gospels during January. And as you do so, make a note of every time Jesus invites someone to follow Him in some way. Notice every time Jesus teaches about life and faith. And take note of every time He restores health and meets the physical and spiritual needs of someone. Perhaps you can keep track of these interactions in a notebook.

If you would like to receive a Bible for this “treasure hunt,” let me know. We will have one available for you.

Here’s the weekly lineup for this series:

Sunday, January 6

“The Body of Christ” 1 Corinthians 12: 12-27 informs us that in our diversity we make up the physical presence of Jesus in the world today. That makes each of us essential to God’s plans and hopes for the world. Our quarterly “Time with the Board” will take place during the last 20 minutes of this worship service.

Sunday, January 13 “Invite” Jesus was an inviter. He was always making room for one more in his little band of followers. He was always saying “Come and follow, even before you’ve got spiritual life figured out, come and follow. Come with your questions. Come with your doubts. Come and follow.“ (Scriptures to ponder: Mark 1: 16-20 & Luke 14: 12-24). Continued to page 4

January Worship Series

“The Body”

Sunday January 20 “Disciple” No one ever taught like Jesus – with such incredible life giving insight and authority. We will view “Dust” a video by Rob Bell. (Scripture to ponder: Mark 4: 1-20 The Parable of the Soils)

Sunday, January 27

There will be one worship service at 9:30 am. “Relieve Suffering and Heal.” Jesus notices everyone in need and turns aside to help. And while He accomplished amazing things, Jesus told his followers they would accomplish even greater things than they had seen Him do. Can that happen through our lives? (Scriptures to ponder: Mark 5: 21-43 & Mark 10: 46-52) Our one 9:30 am worship service will be followed by our annual “Celebrate Cross Winds” meal and church conference.

Why I hate to miss the Sunday Morning Bible Study by Kathy Dyrdal

Last August when Jamie Boettcher shared that she felt led to start a casual Bible Study, I knew I was in. I’d gotten away from regular reading on my own and missed being with others to discuss thoughts and questions directly from reading God’s Word.

Sunday mornings at 9:00 we’ve had a small group of us that come when we can. It’s open any week whether you’ve been before or not.

Jamie provides us with various versions of the Bible as well as a commentary or 2 and some different ideas for how to approach the reading we choose. Usually we read the scripture for the morning message. I loved hearing one participant say how much more they were getting from the morning messages after taking some time to read and meditate on the section beforehand. I also love coming into the 10:30 service already having my thoughts on the scripture and ready to hear the preachers application and interpretation.

The morning Bible Study gives me time to listen to God.

You are so welcome to join us any week!

Adult Ministry

Drop in Bible Study 9:00 am

Come any or every Sunday and spend just an hour in intentional contemplation of God’s Word. Bibles & other study resources are available for use, but bringing your own Bible is great!

Topics will vary based on the group’s interest, sometimes digging deeper into that day’s scripture basis for worship.

No registration or advanced reading, just come with a seeking mind and a yearning heart.

Everyone is welcome here!

An AMAZING Charlie Brown Christmas!

Wow! Was this a Christmas dream or did Cross Winds just witness the most amazing Christmas program?! I am so proud of the cast, crew and directors who worked SO hard to share this special and iconic story. As the holiday creeps closer, I’ve been asking people, “Who’s your Linus” ... Who’s your person who reminds you of the season’s true meaning?! My answer is ALL OF YOU!

Here’s to a new year of magical experiences, talented team work, and deepening relationships!

May Jesus be part of it all!
