Summer time! Kids love it. However, soon it
will be time to return to the hustle and bustle
of school. The stores are already posting
supply lists and displaying rows of pencils,
paper, notebooks, crayons, glue, etc. Back
to school is around the corner. Times
change. This photo was taken in 1912 at the
Cloverdale School on what is now Old Gary
Ave. The frame school stood just to the south
of what is now Community Consolidated
School District 93’s Early Childhood Center.
The teacher, Mrs. Fritz Stark, is in the center
back.

The Society’s participation in the annual l Carol Stream 4th of July parade
featured a bright red convertible! Charter Member and former president,
Barb O’Rahilly, waved to the car’s backseat. Our thanks to Josh
Leonhard, grandson of member Jean Leonhard, for providing his Mustang
for our entry.

Work on the Historical Society’s
archives continues this summer
through the efforts of Historian, Laura
Schmidt, and intern, Kyra Millard. Both
are hard at work updating files,
organizing materials and cataloging
artifacts. These tasks demand
consideration attention to detail and
both are well qualified. Laura (right) is
the professional archivist at the Marion
E. Wade Center of Wheaton College.
Kyra (left) will receive her Master of
Arts in History with a concentration in
Public History
from
Northeastern
University in
Boston this
December. We
are most
fortunate to
have the
experience
and expertise
of these ladies!
