I recently ran past a middle school whose marquee read, ‘Summer Should Get A Speeding Ticket’. I couldn’t agree more! I’m sure many of you spent numerous hours in a gym this summer, but I hope that you also took some time for a little R & R! The WBCA All-Star Games were a huge success again in June. A big thank you goes out to everyone that was involved; from the organizers to the coaches, players, and fans. A special thank you to all those who made a contribution to the MACC Fund. The MACC Fund attained a milestone at the end of June, reaching $60 million of contributions since its inception to its three

clinical trials. I couldn’t be more proud of the WBCA’s partnership with the MACC Fund and Jon Cary and being a major part of this milestone!

As the fall quickly approaches (the Packers are back at training camp today as I write this); many exciting WBCA events are just around the corner! The fall prep showcase is September 23rd at Just A Game Fieldhouse in WI Dells. This is an awesome opportunity for your athletes to be seen by DII and DIII college coaches from across the Midwest. The Hall of Fame Banquet will be the following weekend on September 30th at The Wilderness in the Dells. Joan Petitgoue does an outstanding job organizing this event to celebrate basketball in the state of WI from the past and present. Congratulations to all the inductees and award winners! The fall clinic will be held October 5th and 6th in the Dells. This is a great way to gear up for the upcoming season and talk hoops with other coaches...and don’t forget about the very popular hospitality night at Buffalo Phils!

There have been some proposed changes that have brought about major discussion throughout the state amongst coaches and administration. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact a board member. We will continue to work together to do what is best for the game of basketball in the state of WI. Speaking of changes, I am sure you have heard the news that Deb Hauser, one of our main advocates for our sport, will be retiring soon. There are no words to describe what Deb has done not only for the WBCA, but also for our game. Deb has been an instrumental liaison between the WIAA and WBCA and we cannot thank her enough for all that she has done in her tenure.

the sidelines with coaching changes this season. I’d like to welcome all the new members to the WBCA and extend our gratitude to our current members. New coaches, please feel free to contact us if you need any support in any way.

seems especially true in key matchups during the regular season and into the post season, where a powder keg of emotions can explode on any possession.

Coaches and players often complain about a lack of consistency, an unevenness in the application of the rules, and a lack of

As you prepare for the 2017-18 season, make crew consistency a point of emphasis in your Basketball Association meetings and in your pre-game discussions. The 41st Annual WBCA Boys’ Basketball All-Star Game were held on June 17, 2017 at the JustAGame Fieldhouse in Wis-consin Dells. This year’s games were held in the Wisconsin Dells for the f6th consecutive year and the Dells community did a superb job in hosting the All-Star Contestants and Coaches from the time they arrived on Thursday of All-Star Week until the games were completed on Saturday. Once again the WBCA was able to donate over $100,000 to the Midwest Athletes Against Childhood Cancer (MACC Fund) and the All-Star Staff would like to thank John Cary for all of his efforts and extend our deepest

This year’s games again featured the top talent from the 2017 Senior Class from the state. The games were highly competitive and the players and coaches did extraordinary job displaying both their competitiveness on the court and in their fundraising efforts. This was the second year that Spectrum Sports was able to broadcast this year’s games. Once again, they able televise the Division 1 and Division 2 games live on their cable sports channel. We thank Spectrum Sports for their efforts to bring this tremendous event to viewers across the state. The WBCA All-Star Staff would also like to extend a BIG THANK YOU to Dave Royston and his staff at JustAGame Fieldhouse

-west. The WBCA would also like to thank Buffalo Phil’s and their staff for hosting the All Star participants for our guest speaker from the MACC Fund on Thursday of the All Star Week and all of their efforts to accommodate us. In addition to the meal at Buffalo Phil’s, the All Stars were hosted by The Great Wolf Lodge and their accommodations were once again outstanding and there support of the WBCA is never-ending with the various events that are held in the Wisconsin Dells throughout the course of the year. Finally, The WBCA would like to thank all of the coaches, players, fans and friends of basketball for their support and effort to make this year’s All Star event a success. We had a record year fundraising with our players and coaches. Furthermore, your

41ST ANNUAL WBCA ALL-STAR GAMES

I want to thank everyone for their efforts in 2017 in making these All Star Games that very best in the 35 years of their exis-tence. Over the years, I write this article about the scores of the girl’s games. This year I want to talk more about the good that this year’s players did for the MACC fund. The players both boys and girls went out and raised the most money we have ever raised in All Star history. We are over $430, 000 raised. The WBCA donation to the MACC fund will be substantial and will go toward helping hundreds of children in the state, throughout the country, and possibly the world. Cancer research does not just stay within the state of Wisconsin. There are so many networks within the cancer research organization that help children ev-erywhere. Money spent in Madison and Milwaukee is used to develop new medicine and treatment, which is used worldwide. The players heard from cancer patients while at the Dells. Hearing from a peer is much more meaningful for the players. They have to relate to one of their own regarding what their life has been during their battles with this dreaded disease. While the

here to speak to our All Stars. They are here because of the players in the past that went out to raise money for the MACC fund.

In my 32 years of involvement with the All Star Games I have really seen the focus of the games change. The players are all great and will continue to be great people. The real focus of the games, however, is on the kids with cancer. Many players come up to us after their games on Friday and Saturday and wish they would have done more to help in the fund raising. We remind them that the fund raising does not stop with the end of the games. The MACC fund is hosting events all year and that they can continue to support the MACC fund in many more ways than the WBCA all star games. Players, do not lose sight of the big picture. In 1976 the cure rate was about 20% and currently we are up to about an 80% cure rate. We have come a long way, but have a ways to go in our efforts to get that cure rate at 100%.Thank you from everyone at the WBCA and the MACC fund for your efforts and your continue support of this worthwhile cause.
