During a play the officials are watching for penalties. When they see one, which gives an

advantage to the offending team they will throw a flag. If the non-offending team accepts the penalty the referee will advance the ball toward the penalized teams end zone a specific number of yards.

5 Yard Penalties

No Mouth guard – All players Must wear a mouth guard.

Misleading Tactics – Attempt to draw offside or when the defending team voices signals to draw off side.

Illegal Procedures – Offensive line moves before the ball is snapped.

Offside – Encroaching on neutral zone, Contact offside, Quick scrimmage or Defensive signal caller not on own side of neutral zone.

10-Yard Penalties

Disrespectful comments toward officials – No player shall use insulting language or rude gestures towards an official.

Objectionable Conduct – A. Use profane, obscene, insulting language or gestures to an official, coach, spectator or another player; B. Unsportsmanlike conduct such as throw a ball at an official, coach, spectator or another player.; C. Tactics by player to delay game, such as spiking the ball, throwing or kicking the ball after play is dead.; D. Contacting an official; E. Not wearing mandatory equipment

Illegal substitution – Sub leaves on wrong side of field, or enters too late, sleeper play or Messenger Players.

Too many players – A maximum of 12 players on the field during a play.

Blocking below the waist – A player clips or otherwise illegally blocks below the waist of another player.

Illegal Use of Hands & Arms – A player excessively uses hands/arms to “hold” an opponent to prevent them from proceeding.

Contacting the Kicker or Place-Kick Holder – Incidental contact with the kicker after the ball has been kicked.

15 Yard Penalties

Restraining Zone Foul on Kick or Return Kick – A (offside) player is within 5 yards of the ball when it is first touched.

Pass interference – A player interferes with an offender's chance to catch the ball to the point that it is not considered “legal contact”.

Blocking from Rear (Clipping) – blocking from behind is illegal.

Unnecessary Roughness – Followed by the signal for the specific penalty.

Piling on – Once the ball becomes dead you are expected to stop running into or throwing yourself on an opponent, even if the whistle has not been blown.

Tackling out of bounds – When a runner is obviously out of bounds no defensive player may tackle him.

Contacting the Passer – It is illegal to contact the passer immediately after he passes the ball.

Head Tackling – a player cannot tackle his opponent by the head/helmet.

Contacting the Kicker or Place-Kick Holder – Deliberate contact with the kicker after the ball has been kicked.

Grabbing face masks – The rules forbid any player to grab another players; face mask.

Spearing – A player cannot lead with his/her helmet when tackling an opponent.

In the eyes of the referee, Unnecessary Roughness with intent to injure is a 25-yard loss and Disqualification. The offending player is ejected from the game.

Please note in our league rules that any player or coach ejected from the game for any reason will also receive a 1 game suspension to be served at the game immediately following the game he/she has been ejected from.
