Building a custom made Ceramic Tile Shower

By Mark J. Donovan

The most important feature inside a ceramic tile bath stall is the bath pan. The bath pan channels

normal water to the drain and also prevents the bath from leaking. As a result it is critical that the bath

pan be set up correctly and that it's waterproof and durable.

The shower pan is really a mortar bed that includes a flexible shower pan liner sandwiched in

between two layers of mortar. The bath stall walls tend to be framed with 2x4 studding and confronted

with some type of backerboard underlayment designed for receiving porcelain tile.

The installing a shower pan starts with the scattering of a layer of mortar. The mortar needs to be

sloped effectively to enable water to operate off towards the drain. The flexible plastic-type material

shower pan membrane layer liner is then attached to top of the sloped mortar bed.

The bath pan membrane lining should be cut to size and side molded into the bath base.

Note: your shower pan must be cut to sizing such that several further inches of bath pan material

might be run up the bath stall side surfaces to enable the bath pan to be guaranteed with nails on the

studs. Also, your shower pan must be installed prior to the installing backerboard on the bath walls. After your shower pan membrane layer is secured, the 2nd layer of mortar should be installed in thefoot of the shower, again maintaining the incline of the mortar on the drain. Once your shower pan mortar bed has set up, it is possible to install the backerboard to the walls andcommence to install the porcelain tiles. Start installing tiles in the center of your shower pan place and work your way outwards. Next, install porcelain tiles on the surfaces. Use a plumb series to run straight collections down thelength of your walls. Position your plumb line in the ceiling and devoted to a wall. Snap the line, sothat you have any vertical line operating the length of the wall membrane. Next, Install your current tiles outwards in the line toward the perimeters of the wall. minimize porcelain tile waste. After the ceramic floor tile has had 24-48 several hours to set up, grout may then be applied to thefloor tile. Finally a sealant should be used on your grout to minimize dampness seeping through the grout lines.
