Core Value #5: Responsible Stewardship: We value responsible Kingdom-advancing stewardship over all of creation, including community, people, time, facilities, financial resources and the environment. How much do we at SJCS practice “creation care?” Not just caring for birds and bees, but also for our people? Do we make wise fiscal decisions that honor our true priorities? How can you help hold us accountable for wise stewardship? We Met the Challenge! GREAT JOB SJCS Community. We met the challenge and now have 104 followers on our Instagram account. We have found that keeping in touch using social media helps grow community and exposure for SJCS. We need to use multiple tools to accomplish our communication goals. Thank you for helping us reach our goal! Remember to #HisTigers when you post on your own social media sites. Scrip Orders Due 10/6 Please turn in your scrip orders by Thursday 11/6. The scrip cards will arrive next week Wednesday, 11/12. See the attached letter for more information on the SJCS Scrip program. 1-2 Musical Tickets Tickets are available for parents of students in grades 1 and 2 for the 1-2 Musical performance scheduled for Friday November 14 at 7pm in the auditorium. P-T Conferences Mrs. Singh will be sending out confirmations of your Parent Teacher Conferences today. Annual SJCS Book Fair The Scholastic Book Fair is coming to SJCS next week (11/10-11/17). Buying books for your kids earns us new books for the SJCS library as well. Teacher Tales Check this section each week for exciting stories about teachers doing great things in the classrooms of San Jose Christian School.

Every Learning Center class starts with a short devotion and prayer, and those devotions often lead to deeper discussions. Here is a great example of one of those discussions with the 2nd and 3rd graders. !Are you a thermometer or a thermostat? A thermometer records the temperature. A thermostat changes the temperature. As a Christ follower you can be a thermometer and feel “love,” or you can be a thermostat and demonstrate “Love Does.” Below are a few of the 2nd and 3rd graders responses. !

Thermometer (Love) Thermostat (Love Does) I’m sad when a kid is left out. I will sit with them and talk to them. Littering is bad for our earth. I will pick up litter and throw it in the garbage. Seeing loneliness makes me feel bad. I’ll make a play date with the person who is

lonely. Seeing bullying makes me angry. I’ll get help from an adult to stop the bully.

Tiger Cubs - Tips and Information about Preschool! !This month in Preschool the students will focus on what it means to be thankful. To get the month started, we want to send a special thank you to the parents and families who helped out and came to Fall Fest. Thank you, parents! !We’d also like to introduce the newest member of our Preschool staff: Tabitha Veyna. Tabitha is currently working part-time while she completes her degree in Early Child Development at West Valley College, and she will be joining us full-time starting in January as the Assistant Teacher for the Dragonflies. She has worked with preschool-aged children for six years, and her love for children grows each day! !Born in San Jose, California, she grew up in Willow Glen and attended Presentation High School. Besides her passion for working with children, she is an advocate for living a healthy life through exercise and a healthy diet. You can catch her hiking and exploring all the beauties nature has to offer. !Tabitha has already shown herself to be a valuable member of our Preschool team, and we’re delighted to have her on board. Be sure to welcome her to our school community!

Cross Country The SJCS Tigers performed well last Tuesday at the Hillbrook Meet. With 4 schools participating and 40 runners, our Tigers did represent! In the 5th/6th boys division Colby Z. took 3rd place. In the 5th/6th girls division Natalie R. took 4th place. And in the 7th/8th boys division Dylan H. took home the 1st place ribbon and Josh N. took home the 3rd. Well done Tigers! We look forward to the Division Finals this Friday in Danville. Keep our runners in your prayers for health and safety this week.

The Mission of SJCS !!The mission of SJCS is to advance the kingdom of God by providing

exceptional teaching and curriculum fully integrated with Biblical

perspective. Within our committed Christian community, we live to

engage and transform culture for Jesus Christ.

Fall Town Hall Summary !It was the night of game 6 of the World Series. No matter, SJCS parents, staff and board members gathered in the auditorium for the Fall Town Hall. Community Development Director Betsy Phillips began the evening by giving away an SJCS athletic bag to someone who dared to sit in the front row! !Interim Supt. Bart Den Boer reported on the results of the strategic planning process, including our revised Mission Statement, our newly formed Core Values, and SJCS’s strategic objectives for the next 3-5 years. !Betsy Phillips encouraged us all to be involved in the upcoming SJCS community events and to keep the communication lines in good repair. !Board treasurer Curt Sacks gave an overview of our current budget. Melissa Findley reviewed the results of this month’s Walk-A-Thon. Bart Den Boer “pitch-hit” for an “under-the-weather” Dave Intlekofer (Principal) and delivered updates on our pre-school, school theme, chapel program and the new “Buddy Bench” on our elementary playground. !Those in attendance asked questions. A community gathered to talk about matters important to them…..and to our children. The Giants lost 10-0.
