Amazin’ Mets Head to Kansas City for All the Marbles BY SHAWN M. GRADE 4 MS. SARAPOCHILLO On October 21, the New York Mets swept the Chicago Cubs in four games and earned a trip to the World Series. This is the first time in fifteen years that the Mets will compete for the crown. If they win, it will be their first World Series win since 1986. Daniel Murphy was on fire in the series against the Cubs, with 6 homers, which set a post season record. Curtis Granderson’s batting was solid with seven RBIs. In the field, Granderson stole a home run from Chris Coughlan, with an amazing catch over the fence. The Mets' pitchers were at their best. Jacob Degrom and his fastball struck out 7 Cubbies, while Steven Matz threw 4 strike outs. The World Series against the Royals will be tough. Jacob Degrom is going to pitch the first game on Tuesday, October 27. The Mets are going to struggle with the Royals strong hitting lineup, including Mike Moosetaukes and Lorenzo Cain, but with the Mets' Granderson and Yoenis Cespedas in the field, Mets can win. Hello. My name is Emma. I want to tell you about one of my favorite authors, Geronimo Stilton, which is actually a pen name. The real author is Elisabetta Dami.

One of my favorite books in that series is The Hunt for the Curious Cheese. The main characters in this story are Geronimo Stilton, Hercule Poirat (a famous detective), Benjamin Stilton (Geronimo’s favorite nephew),

and Bugsy Wugsy (Geronimo’s girlfriend’s niece).

The story takes place in New Mouse City, where Geronimo Stilton lives. All the mice are getting sick with stomachaches and green warts. They find out that a group of mice is making rubber cheese! Their boss is working with the Sleezer, one of the most evil rodents! They have to disguise the Banana Camper (Hercule Poirat ‘s camper) which is in the shape of a banana, so no one could find out they don’t belong there.

I would recommend this book to anyone because it is hilarious and keeps you reading for hours!

Camp With Carli Lloyd

Have you ever heard of the soccer player, Carli Lloyd? Yeah, the one who scored a Hatrick, or three goals, in the World Cup. Well, fourth and fifth graders in Middletown got a chance to do a camp and meet her! I was one of the kids who signed up for the camp and many other kids did too.

So when we got there you got seperated into groups, then got started on your first station. When we were done with all of the stations the different groups played in a scrimmage. We played about three of them.

While you were doing everything, Carli walked around to see everyone.

During the camp we had breaks. On the breaks we got to interact with Carli. We got to ask questions, have a juggling contest, she got to shoot on one of the campers, and more. It was really fun.

Overall, the camp was great and I am so happy that I got to experience it. It helped me with my soccer skills and I was so excited to meet Carli! I hope that there is another camp someday.

Geronimo Stilton is actually a pen name. The real author’s name is Elisabetta Dami.

Way back on November 9, 1965, there was a huge black out in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Vermont, and parts of Ontario in Canada. It was called “The Great Northeast Blackout of 1965.” Back then it was the biggest power failure in U.S. history. Over 30 million people had no electricity! The lights were out for about 13 hours. Back then, no one had cell phones so no one knew what was going on and why the lights went out. The blackout happened during the time when people were going home from work from New York City. Millions of people were trapped in the subways, and in office buildings, and in elevators and trains.

The blackout happened because of a transmission in Canada that broke and too much electricity was sent through the electrical wires. This is called a “power surge.” This surge then broke a transmission close to us. The electric company worked all night, and by the next morning people had electricity again.

The police reported that people worked together and New Yorkers shared flashlights and supplies. They talked with their neighbors. The police also said that there was not a lot of stealing from stores or other crimes. People helped each other.
