Recently I have been looking at the phrase, “Priesthood of all believers.”

Looking at 1 Peter 2:9 we read, “But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.”

Luther writes about this verse, “A shoemaker, a smith, a farmer, each has his manual occupation and work; and yet, at the same time, all are eligible to act as priests.... Every one of them in his occupation or handicraft ought to be useful to his fellows...”

According to Luther, all believers have equally received the treasures which God has given, from the shoemaker to the farmer to the CEO. No vocation stands over and above the rest. No vocation is more "sacred" than any other. No vocation is better than another. God has called all believers, without exception, to be His royal priests -- from the dock-worker to the doctor, from the messenger to the manager, from the educator to the executive. No legitimate vocation is too lowly to be the vehicle through which God will do His work.

In other words, no person is better than the other in the eyes of the King-dom of God. No matter who you are, you are a priest for the work of God. You are a witness showing the love of Christ to others.

The fundamental problem, though, is that many believers fail to under-stand that they are priests in their daily vocations. Most will leave their Godly calling to be a priest solely to the pastor. They fail to see that their life is a vehicle through which God will do His work.

As priests, we believers are endowed with the incredible privilege of ministering for God daily. But because many believers lose sight of their priestly calling, they slosh through their tasks day after day, without seiz-ing valuable opportunities to serve God as priests.

This next month I encourage you to look for the multiple opportunities that God might give to you to start serving God in a renewed role. Some of those opportunities you may already be doing. May those tasks be more edifying to you. Some opportunities may include praying for an

To : Trinity Lutheran Members

Work has begun on the updating project in Fellowship Hall.

The entire project will take several weeks to complete. The texture has been removed from the ceiling, and the paneling on each end will be replaced with drywall. The ceiling and ends will be painted, and the wood beams will be polished. New LED lighting will be installed. After the floor carpeting is re-moved, we will smooth the uneven areas of the floor before laying floor carpet and new carpet on the walls. New doors matching the doors in the Education Wing will be installed. The stage will be updat-ed, and a winch will be installed for easier raising and lowering of the stage. All the work will be com-pleted by local vendors and church volunteers.

We request our members to please consider additional donations to cover the cost of this project. The Trinity Lutheran Church Endowment and Church Leadership Council have agreed to fund $50000.00 of the $70000 cost. While lending sources are available, we believe this project can be funded totally by our members.

This is the first complete make-over of Fellowship Hall since it was built in 1971. We believe it would be fulfilling to complete this project and have it fully funded and paid while planning our 100th anniver-sary celebration to begin in November 2021, and continue through November 2022. Please designate your contribution to “Fellowship Hall Project”.

Thank you.
