• Tiffany Jane Brand (@tiffanybrandlib) was the 2009-2011 University of Pittsburgh University Library System Diversity Fellow as well as a librarian in the Reference and Instruction and Special Collections departments at the University.

• Tiffany received her MLIS from the University of Pittsburgh in 2010, after five years working in academic and public libraries. Her work and research includes digital rights management in libraries and archives, distance education, and the use of emerging technologies in cultural institutions. Job Searching in Twitter

Basic Search

• Use quotes or exact phrasing.

• Type From:Smithsonian to bring back all tweets sent from Smithsonian.

• Enter@Smithsonian to bring back all tweets that mention Smithsonian, including job list mentions.

Advanced Search

• Use keywords or Boolean.

• With advanced twitter searching you can narrow down your job search to a geographic area.

Promoting Your Work

• Optimal tweets: short opinion

and link to work or article (podcast, video, etc.) related to library industry.

• Ex. Join @CareersFedLib at the ALA Job Placement Center ( #alamw12) for two career sessions: 1/21 & 1/22-http://www.alamidwinter.org/

• Add relevant hashtags to make sure tweet is seen in multiple channels. Ex. #archives #socialmedia

• Tip to promote work: #libchat.

• MT: Retweet a tweet, but with some modifications (ex. shortening link)

• DM (Direct Message) send a private message to person you follow.

• Use @ symbol to send a message to person/organization.

• RT: Retweet a tweet that was sent to you.

• Go to https://twitter.com/settings/profile to link Twitter and FB accounts. Can’t post from FB to Twitter, FB ended that service.

• Create a separate list for job resources and friends.

• Use Facebook timeline to display projects and resumes to prospective employers.

• Use #in to post tweets to your LinkedIn account.

Tips for Successful Networking

• Ask questions, respond to others tweets, make hashtags as specific as possible. #archives #socialmedia rather than #computers #libraries.
