Application Guide

This guide will help you to set up your Tier 4 Online application. If you are submitting your application through the International Student Support Office (which we strongly recommend) make sure that you do not pay for or submit your application online until you have seen a member of International Student Support staff.

Step 1: Go to the UK Border Agency website. Follow this link:

http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/

Click ‘My account’ in the top right corner.

Step 2: If you have ever registered on the UK Border Agency website before, you can log in here. Most students will not have previously registered, however. You should click the ‘Register’ link.

Step 3: Register on the UK Border Agency website (you are just creating an account). We are only showing you the first page here but you should follow the instructions to complete your registration. This will involve logging in to your email to confirm your details.

Note that your memorable word needs to be at least 8 letters long. You will need this and your password each time you log in so keep them safe.

Step 4: Once you have completed the registration process, the UK Border Agency website will take you to this page. DO NOT BOOK AN APPOINTMENT. Instead, click the ‘Apply online’ link on the left side.

Step 5: Find the Tier 4 application form. Click ‘Forms A-Z’ (don’t click ‘Find forms’ – this is confusing).

Step 6: Click ‘Apply online’. If you have logged out by accident, you may have to log in again first.

Read this section and click next. If you intend to use the Premium Service, contact ISSO for advice before carrying on with the form.

Step 7: These questions make sure that you get asked the right questions in the rest of the application so make sure you answer them correctly. Click ‘Next’ when you’re done.

Dependants: If you are studying a postgraduate course of more than 12 months, then you should tick Yes, otherwise tick No. If you have dependants applying with you, you should consult with the International Student Support Office before completing this form.

Biometric residence permits: This is when your visa is issued on a card instead of a sticker on your passport. If your current visa is on a card, tick Yes, if it is a sticker, tick No.

Step 8: Complete the application form.

You will need to click on each of these sections and complete them as much as you can. Make sure that you click the ‘Save’ button often. Clicking the ‘Check’ button on individual sections will make sure that you have answered all of the questions you are required to, it will not tell you if those answers are right.

DO NOT PAY FOR YOUR APPLICATION. WAIT TO CLICK CHECK APPLICATION. See following pages.

Step 9: STOP when you get to this page:

MAKE SURE YOU HAVE SAVED YOUR APPLICATION.

Come to the International Student Support Office, book through the Student Information Desk ([email protected] or in person at the Forum). Bring your log in details, the credit or debit card you intend to use to pay for your application and all of your documents to the appointment. We will check through your application at the appointment.
