Lavinia Leach Lazer
Receives
“The Trait of Respect Award”
At
John R. Williams School
On September 24th our Lavinia Lazer was recognized
for “Outstanding Character “at John R. Williams
School during the Month of September 2012. The
award was presented to Lavina by the Principal
Mrs. Martin and Teacher Janet Olmstead.
As taught in our Tibon’s Goju Ryu Fighting Arts
Program that Goju Ryu Karate is more than just punch,
blocks, and kicks, it’s the “Life Skill Development” is
our major focus.
To have our students understanding how to be the best
at what they do starts with great character and role-
modeling. We see Kohai (karate student) Lavina
Lazer as one of our young Karate-ka practitioners, who
work hard to achieve the best that she can be in school,
home, and dojo.
Congratulations Lavina Lazer!

Friendly Reminder: Attention Parents and Students!
Monthly Tuition Increase January 1, 2013
Please See New Brochures!
Please note, prior to last year to assist our students and their families during difficult economic times; Tibon’s
Goju Ryu has tried to keep increases as minimal as possible. Unfortunately we now find we must raise our
monthly tuition, because of our rising business operating costs.
Effective January 1, 2013, an increase of an additional $5.00 per month, per student will be assessed. This
nominal increase is less than .65 cents per class, and represents only a small portion of the increases we are
experiencing.
It is our expressed wish; these new tuition fees will not present a hardship to anyone, and please realize we
always try very hard to give the best value in instruction and investment, for all of our students training in
traditional karate and Kobudo.
A quick survey of our local competitors, assures us we are offering quality instruction at a more modest rate,
for up to twice the amount of real class-time instruction. Further, we feel we have a proven record of being a
karate school that strives for excellence in developing our students to reach a national and international level
of development. This is confirmed by our ability to place athletes on the U.S. National Karate Team every
year, and our commitment to developing leadership in our students.
We hope you understand the necessity to raise tuitions, to compensate for higher costs in doing business and
in order to keep our programs at the high level of technical quality that you have come to expect.
If you are interested in pre-paying your tuition, a discount program is in place, please ask myself, or Mrs.
Tibon for more information.
Thank you for your continued business, support and cooperation.
Sincerely, Sensei Gene & Yvonne Tibon

The Leadership Team of Black Belt and Brown Belt Have Added Green Belt 3 Stripes to
Leadership Class and Training Next Leadership Meeting October 21
st 11am-1pm
Leadership training is exactly that, it teaches our student to become role models, leaders, positive examples, assistants to the Instructors, develops confidence, taking initiative, customer service understanding, team work relationships with leadership instructor team, and how to take initiative towards addressing an issue, or developing a creative idea in making you into somebody who can work with and teach anyone. Our Leadership program teaches our students about business and corporate understanding. This class will affect them in school, work, clubs, organizations, along with development of their interpersonal skill development. Once a month we have a Leadership meeting for two hours, which we will have lunch provided while our students are learning about their responsibilities as a leader. All of our Leadership Instructors after receiving their Black Belts have also maintained an excellent grade point average has gone off to college or university to study for their degrees. Once they complete their AA, BA, or Master’s Degree they apply for jobs, and find that a lot of what they learned in our Leadership Class has prepared them for the Management positions they may have applied for. We go beyond teaching great martial arts, we teach our students to be successful in life, understanding business, and customer service, by teaching them in their training in Goju Ryu Karate how to apply into their life skills. We welcome the new Green Belts 3 strips, whose next level is Brown Belt to our Leadership Program. Any questions please call Sensei Gene Tibon at the main dojo at (209) 465-0943.

CENTRAL VALLEY KARATE BOOSTERS CLUB The Annual Picnic, sponsored by the Booster Club was held on Sunday, September 23, 2012 at Micke Grove Park. On behalf of the
Executive Board of the Booster Club, I would like to thank everyone who attended and supported this annual event. Everyone
enjoyed nachos and snow cones, and the food provided by everyone for the potluck was outstanding as usual.
Special thanks to Mary Pedraza for chairing and organizing this event and to Sensei Justin Love for co-chairing, providing the
music, and organizing the fun activities for the kids. The kids had a great time with the games and dancing on the stage. Thanks
also to Sensei Brian Embry for organizing and taking charge of the karate demonstration and to all the students who participated.
Acknowledgement should also be given to Jon Orbon for providing the ice for the snow cones, to Pete Saunders for donating ice for
the drinks, and to Martin Toy for donating the syrup for the snow cones. Finally, thank you to all of the volunteers who helped out
with the preparations, who served snow cones and nachos, sold raffle tickets, made raffle baskets, came early to set up, and stayed
late to clean up. Thank you to everyone who donated many items for the raffle baskets, including all of the Black Belt instructors
who donated private lessons. Congratulations to all of the raffle winners.
Without the Booster Club members’ support, volunteerism, and donations, events like this would not be possible, and the Booster
Club would not be able to function and support our athletes. The Booster Club would like to continue providing funds
to competitors to help offset costs. There are several karate tournaments coming up: Washington (October
2012), Canada (January 2013), Oregon (March 2013), and Las Vegas (April 2013). The Booster Club
appreciates your continued support with fundraising efforts. If you are interested in attending any of these
tournaments and would like to be eligible for funds, please attend upcoming Booster Club meetings to receive
more information.
The next General Booster Club meeting will be on Saturday, October 13, 2012 at 5:00PM, at the Main Dojo
during Tokubetsu. Hope to see you at the meeting.
Thanks. Mits Ohata

How to Deal With Bullying Behavior Seminar
By
Sensei and California Highway Patrol Officer
Justin Love
Next Class TBA in November
After the great seminar Sensei Justin Love taught request for another seminar has been
requested by those who missed and those who want to participate in it again. With the
upcoming school year approaching, bullying behaviors by other students and peers can be a
problem for some of our students. Even with training in martial arts, how to deal with this
type of behavior effectively can be difficult. The Booster Club will be sponsoring a seminar
for our students and parents on how to prevent and respond to bullying behavior. Sensei
Justin Love will be facilitating this seminar. The tentative date for this event is a Sunday TBA
in November 2012 from 3:00PM to 5:00PM. Please stay tuned for how to sign-up for this
seminar, which should be very informative.
