Suitability according toTechnical Information No. 606Definition of Application Areas

Application

The substrate must be sound/stable, dry, clean, and free from all substances that may prevent goodadhesion. In Germany: Follow VOB, part C, DIN 18363, section 3.

Suitable Substrates

Exterior surfaces with algal and fungal attack (fungi/mildew/mould infestation): Clean thoroughly with awater jet (wet blasting) in compliance with the regulations. Then use Capatox or FungiGrund and allowto dry.

Renders/Plasters in Mortar Groups/Classes PII (Lime-Cement Mortars) and PIII (CementMortars) / Minimum Compressive Strength according to DIN EN 998-1: 1.5 N/mm²:New renders/plasters must be left untreated for a sufficiently long time, normally for 2 weeks at 20 °Cand 65 % relative humidity. Adverse weather conditions, influenced e.g. by wind or rain, extend thecuring process and correspondingly longer idle times must be respected. The risk of calcareousefflorescence is reduced by an additional priming coat of CapaGrund Universal and the alkalinefinishing render/plaster can be coated after a delay of 7 days.

Existing renders/plasters: Repairs must have adequate time to cure and dry. Highly porous, absorbent, slightly sanding renders/plasters: Apply one priming coat of OptiGrund E.L.F. or CapaSol LF. Primehighly sanding, chalking renders/plasters with Dupa-grund. Coat mineral lightweight renders/plastersof mortar group PII with products of the Sylitol or AmphiSilan range.

Concrete: Concrete surfaces with dirt deposits or fines/sintered layer must be cleaned mechanicallyor with high pressure jet, in compliance with the regulations. Apply one first coat of Amphibolin-W,diluted max. 5 % with tap water, on slightly absorbent or even surfaces. Apply one priming coat ofOptiGrund E.L.F. or CapaSol LF on highly porous surfaces. Prime chalking surfaces with Dupa-grund.

Substrate Preparation

Technical Information No. 105

Fibre Cement Boards (with or without Asbestos Fibres): In Germany: Follow BFS Data Sheet No.14 and TRGS 519 for coatings on asbestos cement boards.Prime in accordance with Technical Information No. 650. Prime free-standing boards on both sides aswell as on all edges. Prime new, highly alkaline fibre-cement boards with Disbon 481 EP-Uniprimer toavoid calcareous efflorescence.

Cement-Bound Wood Chipboards (Particle Boards): Apply one priming coat of Disbon 481 EP-Uniprimer on highly alkaline boards to prevent calcareous efflorescence.

Sound/Stable Coats of Enamel or Dispersion/Emulsion Paint: Roughen/sand the surface ofenamels or glossy/shiny coatings and remove all sanding dust. Clean soiled, chalking coats of paint byhigh pressure water jet, manual washing or other suitable means, in compliance with the regulations.Allow to dry and apply one first coat of Amphibolin-W, diluted up to a max. of 5 % with tap (potable)water.

Stable Coats of Existing Plasto-Elastic Emulsion Paints (e.g. Cap-elast): Clean soiled, chalkingcoatings by pressure washing, manual washing or other suitable means, in compliance with theregulations. Allow the substrate to dry thoroughly. Coating such surfaces should be effected withAmphibolin-W in white or pastel/light-coloured shades (luminosity >60).

Sound/Stable Synthetic Resin-Bound (Organic) Renders/Plasters: Clean existing renders/plastersby suitable means. Allow wet cleaned surfaces to dry thoroughly. Apply one first coat of Amphibolin-W,diluted up to a max. of 5 % with tap (potable) water.

Unsound Coatings of Enamel, Dispersion/Emulsion Paint or Synthetic Resin-Bound (Organic)Render/Plaster: Remove completely by suitable means, e.g. mechanically or via paint stripper, followed by surface cleaning with a high pressure steam jet, in compliance with the regulations.Apply one first coat of Amphibolin-W, diluted to a max. of 5 % with tap (potable) water. Apply one priming coat of Dupa-grund on strongly absorbent, sanding surfaces.

Unsound Mineral Coatings: Remove the coating completely by sanding off, brushing off, scrapingoff, using high pressure water jet in compliance with the regulations or by other suitable means.Allow wet cleaned surfaces to dry thoroughly before further treatment. Prime with Dupa-grund.

Uncoated Wood, Unstable in Dimensions: New wood: Remove all extruding resin/rosin and resingalls. Wash tropical wood with high fat content using nitro thinner (cellulose thinner/diluent for celllacquer). Remove weathered wood to the stable substrate. Max. permissible moisture content inhardwood: 12 % and in conifers 15 %. Apply one priming coat of Capalac Holz-Imprägniergrund.Apply one intermediate coat of Capacryl Holz-IsoGrund on wood with tendency to discolouration.

Galvanized Surfaces: Clean according to BFS Data Sheet No. 5. Apply one first coat of Amphibolin-W, diluted to a max. of 5 % with tap (potable) water. Exposure to high moisture may lead to whiteefflorescence on coats of tinted product. Wipe off with a dry cloth and apply an additional coat ofAmphibolin-W.

Unplasticized (Rigid) PVC: Clean and roughen the surface. Apply one first coat of Amphibolin-W,diluted to a max. of 5 % with tap (potable) water. In Germany: Follow BFS Data Sheet No. 22.

Coil Coating: Clean with light ammonia solution (surface-active agent). Apply one first coat ofAmphibolin-W. Note: Coil coating with content of silicone cannot be painted, hence always a trialcoating on site must be effected, followed by a check for adhesion, in order to ensure the compatibility.

Fair Faced Brickwork: Only absorbent clinker bricks of frost resistant quality and free of foreigninclusions are suitable for exterior coatings. Masonry must be dry and free of salts/salty efflorescence, jointing must be free of cracks. Apply one first coat of Amphibolin-W, diluted to a max. of 5 % with tap(potable) water. If brown discolouration appears on the coat, then recoat with solvent-based façadepaint Duparol-W.

Surfaces Contaminated with Factory Fumes or Soot: Coat with solvent-based façade paintDuparol-W.

Cracks in Renders/Plasters or Concrete:  Coat with Cap-elast.

Surfaces with Salty Efflorescence: Remove salty efflorescence thoroughly by dry wire brushing andprime with Dupa-grund. Coating of such surfaces must be considered a risk for which we cannotaccept responsibility, since even after the most thorough treatment the efflorescence may recur.

Defects: Repair small defects in mineral substrates with Caparol Fassaden-Feinspachtel (fine filler),deeper damages up to 20 mm preferably with Histolith-Renovierspachtel and prime repaired areassubsequently.

Apply with paint brush or roller.Method of Application

First or Intermediate Coat: Amphibolin-W, diluted to a max. of 10 % with tap (potable) water.Surface Coating System

Finishing Coat: Amphibolin-W, undiluted or diluted to a max. of 5 % with tap (potable) water. Onrough-textured surfaces the first coat or intermediate and finishing coats must be diluted 5 % andshould be spread well.

Technical Information No. 105

Approx. 120 ml/m² per coat on an even substrate. On rough-textured surfaces correspondinglymore. The exact consumption is best established by a trial coating (test area) on site.

Consumption

Lower Temperature Limit for Application and Drying: +5 °C for product, substrate and ambient air.Application Conditions

At +20 °C and 65 % relative humidity surface-dry and recoatable after 4 - 6 hours, rain resistant after24 hours. Thoroughly dry and ready for stress after 3 days. Lower temperatures and higherrelative humidity extend the drying time.

Drying/Drying Time

Immediately after use with water.Tool Cleaning

Do not apply in direct sunlight or on sun heated substrates, during strong wind, fog or rain, highrelative humidity or imminent rain or frost. The paint should be applied wet-on-wet and without interruption in order to avoid lapping.Do not apply on horizontal surfaces exposed to rain or moisture. On rough-textured exterior substrates the use of matt Caparol façade paints ThermoSan or Sylitol-NQG is recommended for aesthetic reason.Amphibolin-W contains special algicidal and fungicidal film protection agents to counteract the formingof organic growth (algae & fungi/mildew/mould) on the coating film. The depot of agents offers aprolonged protection, but the algicidal & fungicidal effect is limited by the special façade conditions onsite, e.g. intensity of organic attack/infestation and moisture. A durable protection cannot beguaranteed.FungiGrund can be used instead of OptiGrund E.L.F. for substrate preparation, when the cleaningprocedure of attacked surfaces has been finished and the surface is fully dry.Mechanical loads on matt to silk-matt façade paints in dark shades may produce bright-toned stripesas a product specific property (no writing resistance). In case of moist weather conditions (rain, dew, fog) yellowish transparent traces of additives, showinga slightly glossy shine and stickiness, may occur on the surface of compact, cool substrates or bymeans of delayed drying caused by the weather. The traces of additives are water-soluble and willdisappear under the influence of a sufficient water quantity, e.g. repeated intensive rainfalls. Thequality of the dried coating will not be affected by these changes. In case of direct reworking, all tracesof additives must be pre-wetted and completely removed after a short reaction time. An additionalpriming coat of CapaGrund Universal must be applied. The traces cannot occur when the paint isapplied under suitable climatic conditions.Touching up surfaces is depending on many parameters and can be visible after drying.(In Germany: See BFS Data Sheet No. 25)
