Preparing for God’s Word The Prelude invites us to begin our time of worship; please observe this time in silent meditation.

Prelude Fanfare on “America the Beautiful” Arr. Col Lee Augustin, Organ & Piano

Welcome To Worship and Announcements Please sign and pass Friendship Folders to your neighbors.

* Call to Worship One: Our God requires sacrifices of us, out of love for us. All: Yet God never asks more of us than God is willing to undertake. One: We come into this house of prayer to be met by God. All: Speak to us in the quiet of our hearts with words of guidance and comfort. One: It is in the nature of this God to be unrestrained in love for us and in giving to us. All: Through the power of your Holy Spirit, keep us attentive to You in this time together so that we may be shaped by the gift of your presence.

* Opening Hymn No. 483 Sing Praise to God, Who Reigns Above

Unison Prayer of Confession (from Psalm 51) Have mercy on us, O God, according to your steadfast love; according to your abundant mercy blot out our transgressions. Wash us thoroughly from our iniquity, and cleanse us from our sin. For we know our transgressions, and our sin is ever before us. Against you, you alone, have we sinned and done what is evil in your sight. Create in us a clean heart and put a new and right spirit within us. Restore us to the joy of your salvation, and sustain us with a willing spirit. Through Christ we ask it; Amen.

Declaration of God’s Forgiveness One: The Lord is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. Receive now the gracious forgiveness of our loving God. All: Thanks be to God.

* The Passing of the Peace One: As children of God, we are no longer strangers, but friends. The peace of Christ be with you. All: And also with you. One: Please greet one another with a sign of peace.

Invitation to the Lord’s Table

The Great Thanksgiving One: The Lord be with you. All: And also with you. One: Lift up your hearts. All: We lift them to the Lord. One: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. All: It is right to give our thanks and praise. One: It is truly right and our greatest joy…. Therefore we praise you, joining our voices with choirs of angels, with prophets, apostles, and martyrs, and with all the faithful of every time and place, who forever sing to the glory of your name: All: Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. One: You are holy, O God of majesty….

Prayer of Dedication

Sharing of the Bread and the Cup

Distribution of the Bread and the Cup (Congregants are served communion in the pews. Please hold the bread and cup to partake together. Federated celebrates an open table, meaning all who trust in Christ are welcome to receive communion. Only grape juice is served for communion, though the service sometimes refers to “wine.” Gluten-free wafers are at the center of bread trays. Children are welcome to receive communion with the permission of parents and guardians as part of the family’s on-going conversations about faith. After partaking, please place cups in pew holders.)

Unison Prayer After Receiving Gracious God, you have made us one with all your people in heaven and on earth. You have fed us with the bread of life, and renewed us for your service. Help us who have shared Christ’s body and received his cup, to be his faithful disciples so that our daily living may be part of the life of your kingdom, and our love be your love reaching out into the life of the world. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Our guest pastor Sunday, is the Rev. Connie Stone, a native of Nebraska. She has served in the ministry for 15 years, pastoring Presbyterian, Methodist and UCC churches. Her parents were active members of Federated Church for many years, and Connie was a member herself. Connie is currently seeking a new call, preferably in the northeastern U.S., as her daughter Abby has recently moved to Portland, Maine, and she would prefer to be a little closer to her.

Our guest pastor Thursday, is Adam Lassen from St. Luke’s UCC. Adam was authorized by the Living Waters Association (Nebraska Conference, United Church of Christ) and duly installed as a Pastor at St. Luke’s on December 8, 2013. For over 10 years Adam has served St. Luke’s as Organist and Choir Director. As the newest Pastor at St. Luke’s, Adam continues to provide for the musical aspects of worship, and now also brings his medical training to bear as Pastor for Congregational Health. When he isn’t tickling the ivories at St. Luke’s, Adam works as a nurse and as director of the memory care unit at Columbus Care Center.
