A SCRIPTURE REFLECTION FROM THE PASTOR... Have you ever been in a situation in which someone who could have chosen to help you would not? That is a real deep hurt. This is how Mary and Martha felt in the Gospel. Where was God when I needed him?

We do not always know why things work out as they do. Human beings let us down. Sometimes it seems as if God has let us down. These are our personal crucifixion moments. We may later see clearly why things happened and God is glorified: these are resurrection moments. Sometimes we never know why, and life and death remain a mystery.

We are in this moment now, with this scare of the virus. You may be asking why God is doing this? Or is it God? There is a mystery dimension of God and life that we will never comprehend. But hopefully, our faith and belief in a God who has helped, blessed us, saw us through difficult times and continues to guide us will only grow stronger. Let us support one another, pray for one another and ask our God to nudge us into a future that will glorify Him and lead us to Him.

Sr. Karen Collier SSL

SAFEGUARD THE CHILDREN DID YOU KNOW?Signs of abuse in childrenLast week we discussed the importance of early identification in stopping abuse. This week, we’re looking at some of the signs of abuse that could help adults recognize whether children are in danger. These signs could include withdrawal from others, or a general mistrust of adults. A child who is being sexually abused may relate to others in a sexualized way, inappropriate for his or her age. He or she may suddenly refuse to go to school, or become very fearful of school, or the dark. Other signs that could indicate a child is being sexually abused include aggressive or secretive behavior. Keeping an eye out for these things can help an adult ask the right questions while serving as a trusted source of support and love for a child in need. For more signs, get a copy of the VIRTUS® article “A Step to Healing” at https://lacatholics.org/did-you-know/.

UPCOMING TRAINING:

Safeguard the Children VIRTUS recertification on April 30th from 7 pm to 9 pm at Holy Redeemer Healy Hall

Safeguard the Children VIRTUS session on May 9th from 8:30 am to 12 noon at Holy Redeemer Healy Hall

COVID-19 NEWSMassses Suspended through April 19, 2020On March 16th, the Archdiocese of Los Angeles sent out an announcement from Archbishop Jose Gomez: “I deeply regret that we are forced to temporarily suspend public celebration of the Mass in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles,” said Archbishop José H. Gomez. “What we do in the Church, we do out of love for God and love for our brothers and sisters. We are taking this extraordinary step today out of love and concern for those in our families and communities who are most vulnerable to this deadly coronavirus.” Catholics are encouraged to continue to pray at home with their families and join to the sacrifice of the Mass by making an act of spiritual communion. They are also encouraged to participate in the Holy Mass via the Internet. The Archdiocese will provide a livestream of non-public Masses from the Cathedral of Our Lady of Angels daily and on Sunday via Facebook, @lacatholics, (facebook.com/lacatholics/) or visit lacatholics.org/emergency/. The daily Mass (M-F) in English at 12:10 p.m. and the Sunday Masses in English at 10 a.m. and in Spanish at 12:30 p.m.

worship and celebrate the Lord! Please know that we continue to hold you all in prayer at this time. However, due to safety for all, the Archbishop has asked us to keep the churches closed at this time. We ask you to stay faithful not only in prayer but with your giving. With all the noise and confusion surrounding this crisis, it can be easy to forget or even withhold. But we need you to remain steadfast with your tithes and offerings. Your generosity not only supports the staff and facility, but also ministries and missionaries both local and around the world. People and projects that are facing the same unknown as you. So please stay faithful with your giving. You can do so by mail to the church office: 2411 Montrose Ave, Montrose Ca 91020
