THRILLER RESEARCH/INFLUENCES

Page 2: Thriller research

Children starring in thriller movies can create a disturbing effect for the viewer. This is because children are stereotypically portrayed as innocent and vulnerable, so therefore it creates a strong juxtaposition making the audience feel uncomfortable as this is an unnatural form for a child to take on.

Toys are used frequently throughout many thriller movies. Toys and life like objects can give a spooky, freaky impression towards the audience that can make the audience feel uncomfortable. We know toys to be innocent, emotionless objects used for children to play with. In thrillers, toys are personified and brought to life with evil objectives, for example Saw the movie.

Old people in movies can create a disturbing, shocking effect for viewers. This is because people of an older age are usually stereotyped as vulnerable and unable to fend for themselves, this creates a strong juxtaposition. For example in the 2009 film, Drag Me To Hell, Mrs Ganush who is visible on the right has some disturbing features and contrasts to her self due to her vicious, powerful nature in the film.
