three things for which i am thankful - clover...

Dear Beulah Family, November 6, 2015 Can you believe it’s already November? That means that turkey, lights, Christmas music, and extra shopping are upon us. It also means that we are more inclined to give thanks, as Paul exhorts in 1 Thessalonians 5. Here are three things for which I am thankful: 1) God’s patience with me. Only heaven knows what things would be if God were not patient with me. 2) My family. My wife (Sara) and children (Aimee, Ana, & Zeke), my parents and siblings, my grandparents. I have been blessed with an imperfect family who does our best to follow the Perfect One! 3) A church family that is doing our best to faithfully follow Jesus. (Psst, I’m talking about all of Beulah!) For what are you thankful? I am also thankful for our church leadership, and over the past 4-6 weeks I have had the privilege of leading the Nominating Committee through selecting our next round of leaders. In the next few paragraphs I would like to share with you a bit about that process and the results. Due to the pastoral transition underway here, we got off to a late start with the 2015 nominating process. As I wrapped my head around how it works at Beulah, I did so with the understanding that my job was not to change the process but to lead us through it. Although some who have been involved with the process think there are some changes that need to be made, this year we worked the process that we’ve had in place. That has resulted in the documents included with this letter: Ballot: As has been our practice, this is mostly an affirmation ballot. That is to say that the Nominating Committee presented to the Church Board the individuals we believe would fit best in the open positions. We gave first preference to incumbents who were not facing term limits. Many of the people on the ballot are returning to serve another term. Especially in a transitional season, that is a huge blessing. That means that our leaders value their work and are committed to helping us navigate uncertain times. Thank you, incumbents! In places where there were not incumbents who could or would serve, we looked next to the Leadership Survey that was distributed in October. From those responses we found some great people willing to serve in key positions. Thank you for your willingness to serve! There were a few seats that still were not filled after looking to incumbents and the Leadership Surveys. In those instances we prayed, listened, and initiated conversations with people to whom we believed God was leading us. They agreed, and we are honored that they would be willing to serve. Thank you! All of the names on page one of the ballot are affirmation, meaning that those who vote may vote either YES or NO for these people serving in these capacities. The back of the ballot is slightly different. We need 3 people to represent us at District Conference (in addition to the pastoral staff, Church Board Chairman, & Church Treasurer), and we need several alternates. Therefore, on page two of the ballot we are asking members to vote for three people to serve as delegates. The top three vote-receivers will serve as delegates, and the rest will be alternates. So when it comes time to vote, each voter will vote for three individuals to represent us at our annual District Conference.
