INTRODUCTION TO CHARACTERS

•Jerome: He is the one who has authored the book. He, throughout the story he has often acted dumb but his romantic descriptions of places with regard to their culture , history , food are extremely amiable and praiseworthy .

•Harris: Harris is just another guy who is perplexed all the time. The author once described him as a person with no emotions as he suggests that Harris can never understand emotions but always thinks of a nice place to have the finest of all drinks. He is perfect at creating chaos and has made the novel interesting

•George: He is the lazy man of the story who would be glad and jolly if given an opportunity to have a sound sleep for a day. Readers are made cognizant with his indolence when the author tells how Harris would wake him up at 2:00 pm on Saturdays while on other days he tends to sleep till 4.

Summary

Summary• The chapter begins with the author describing

about the history of Kingston.• Then he started explaining us about his studious

classmate, Stivvings, who used to fall ill thrice a week.

• Harris, who was rowing the boat till now, threw away the sculls and sat on his back and stuck his legs in the air which was followed by a howl and a somersault from Montmorency leading to an upturn in hamper and spreading out of all items! And it was now the authors turn to row the boat.

8

Then, Harris showed off his navigation-skills at the Hampton Court Maze. Seeing his confidence twenty more people followed him, but he could not get them out of the maze. Harris suggested the infuriated people to go back to the beginning and in this process they reached the center of the maze and couldn’t get out. They finally called a keeper new to the business. When he came to ‘rescue’ them, he himself got lost and they had to wait for the older keepers to finish their dinner and get them out of the maze.

Our InterpretationOur group members, on reading chapter six of the novel did unanimously agree that it was indeed a hilarious piece of writing. Some of our members who avidly read the book also found out that out of every conversation one of them had an experience related to the subject matter of the conversation making it easier for the readers to effortlessly relate to their conversation . The much popular novel has also received criticism from our members. They said that sometimes the humor gets unwanted which distracts the readers. However, if one part seems highly interesting, other parts will obviously seem inferior. As we saw that the three friends were brought closer to each other by discussions, negotiations and arguments. Similarly, we should make closer friends by interacting with them and spending time with them.We would like to conclude by saying that this novel is stupendous enough to catch the interest of young readers.
