26.01INTRODUCTION
This course provides the training required to ensure a safe preparation and management of a 3 engine ferry flight for flight crew members currently rated and experienced on A340.
The flight crew member must be qualified, current, experienced on A340 and specifically desig-nated to carry out 3 engine ferry flights. The Captain shall be qualified Instructor.
Before carrying out a 3 engine ferry flight, the designated flight crew member shall follow theapproved A340 "3 Engine Ferry Flight" course if they have not completed this course in the pre-ceding 30 days.
IMPORTANT NOTICE :
It is the Airline responsibility to obtain operational clearance for
3 Engine Ferry Flights from its own Authorities.

05 - TRAINEES' ACTIONS
FCOM 2.04.40 gives details of the procedures and limitations required for the operation of a 3 engine ferry flight.
The crew to perform the flight should be trained in all the procedures and techniques associ-ated with the 3 engine ferry flight. Airbus recommends that the crew should practice the tech-niques in the simulator prior to carrying out the flight. This may be required by the regulatory Authorities or the Airline.
Certain technical conditions must be fulfilled, especially the condition of the failed engine i. e. whether it should be windmilling or locked. Additional limitations are placed on the duration of the flight depending on this condition. Further, some systems must be fully operational for the proposed flight. Other systems must be specially configured for the flight. Reference must be made to the MMEL.
The RTOW performance determination differs form that normally applied for public transport operations. Careful reading of the section of FCOM 2.04.40 relating to performance is manda-tory.
The 3 engine ferry flight take-off, en route net flight path, go around and landing performance must be determined by using the Performance Engineering Program/OCTOPUS by selecting 3 ENGINE FERRY FLIGHT CASE.
The take-off case computed by OCTOPUS is the most conservative, i. e. dispatch with an outer engine unserviceable, failure of the other outer engine at take-off and no landing gear retraction. However the en route net ceiling for 2 engines inoperative are given for landing gear retracted only.
Take-off is permitted with CONF 3 ONLY (A340-600)Dispatch form contaminated runways is not permitted. Flight into known icing is not approved. Maximum crosswind for take-off is 10 KT. French DGAC is recommending :
• a runway width of at least 45 meters,• for take-off 1500 ft ceiling and 1 NM of visibility,• for landing 600 ft ceiling and 2 NM of visibility
When lining up on the runway, the airplane should be positioned 5 meters from the centreline, on the side with 2 operating engines. On the take-off roll some ECAM cautions may appear. A knowledge of which to expect will enable rapid determination of unusual or unexpected mes-sages.
The procedures for thrust setting during the take-off roll differ slightly depending on whether an outer or inner engine is inoperative. The different procedures are detailed in FCOM 2.04.40.

05 - TRAINEES' ACTIONS (END)
While target speeds are given for when to advance the 3rd thrust lever, the actual technique is straightforward : advance the symmetrical engines to TOGA, advance the other engine to 50%, then coordinate increase in thrust from the 3rd engine, with the use of full rudder to maintain runway centreline and achieve 70% N1 at 100 KT. As speed increases the rudder will become more effective, allowing more thrust to be applied on the 3rd engine.
If a second engine failure occurs before 100 KT, the thrust levers are not aligned and therefore the pilots hands are not in the correct position to close ALL the thrust levers at once. Failure to close all the thrust levers after a second engine failure will result in directional control difficul-ties. It is important not to delay any actions in the case of a 2nd engine failure during the take-off roll.
Full rudder deflection may be needed early in the take-off roll particularly in crosswind condi-tions. It is important that half nose down deflection is held on the sidestick until jut before VR. As VR for the 3 engine ferry case is much higher than the normal 4 engine VR, if the sidestick was not held forward then the nose would lift before VR.
After lift off follow the β target. Accelerate if the β target cannot be centered with full rudder deflection. With a 2nd engine failure, acceleration will be required until β target is centered, at the expense of rate of climb.
Note : For T/O procedure A340-600 refer to FCOM 2.04.40 p.4
06 - COMPLETION STANDARDS
• Knowledge of required procedures• Knowledge of risks linked to a 2nd engine failure during take-off• Knowledge of limitations• Safe determination of fuel planning
07 - COMMON ERRORS
• Not accelerating to center β target following 2nd engine failure
