Thomas Bermudez3 – day soccer camp for k-12

Why I chose my topic?I chose this topic for my senior project because I believe that physical education and health is an important lesson that will help you live as healthy and active as you can be for the rest of your life. “Physical education should be taught in elementary and middle school the most because kids are at an important learning age and they must learn how to develop healthy eating habits and physical fitness techniques to stay fit”

3- day soccer camp

For my product I work with 3 different age groups in a 3 day soccer camp. I had 3 groups based on Elem., Middle, and High school. I showed them all the basics of soccer and ways to score goals by passing and dribbling. We started with a 5 min stretch, then played soccer for a full hour. After we had gotten all of our energy out, we then sat down for a quick lecture about the healthy choice of foods to go out and eat after our workday. We did that for 2 days then on the 3rd day we all took surveys about our favorite foods and restaurants, had a quick soccer match, and then had dinner at subway.

MentorMy mentor is Mr. Potachany, he is an

elementary school teacher. He has been teaching for 15 years

Successes I feel as I got through with them at the end because when we went to subway they all chose something healthy on their sub. I still talk to a couple of the kids and they tell me they exercise daily and remember some of the health tips I told them. It was really easy to play soccer after everyone understood the rules and teams everyone had a good time playing.

DifficultiesSome of the kids didn’t show up everyday so it was always different each day. I had 3 kids the first day then 9 kids the second then 12 kids then last. They all usually listened well but the younger ones were difficult but if you were patient with them, they were eventually getting better. My mentor was busy a lot of the time or id be working while he was free.
