AVID at Stevenson
AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. It is a college readiness system that includes a college prep course as well as academic strategies to help Stevenson students achieve their college dreams. We currently have 6 sections of the AVID elective running and will be looking to
increase our numbers in the 2017-2018 school year. Please see Mrs. Reitzel in counseling or Mrs. McCloud in A-10 for more details.
AVID NEWS:
AVID students chose to use the Powder Puff games this year as part of their service credit hour requirement. AVID was able to raise over $2000 to help us pay for college visits and team building programs.

Band News-Two Students Make History!
or the first time in Stevenson History, we have two students selected to be in the All-State Honors Band. Congratulations Rachel Li and Michael Sekich! This year there were over 2,500 auditions in the State so this is quite an accomplishment!
Rachel and Michael represent the excellence that occurs in our instrumental music program. Come hear the excellence at either the Davis Junior High Concert on
December 7 at 7 p.m. or the Stevenson High School concert on December 8 at 7 p.m. or both!
The Marching Band will celebrate their 25th year in a row of division one ratings at their banquet on December 12 at 6:30 p.m.
Congratulations Emily Wilson
Emily Wilson was in the top ten performers at the Annual MAC Open Fall Classic Competition held at the Evola Music Store in Shelby Township on November 5-6, 2016. Emily placed in the top three in all her piano and vocal events. She is now working on nine solos to perform at the Michigan Music Association Contest to be held in February.
The MAC Open had 613 participating students from all over Michigan including pianists, vocalists and instrumentalists whom competed amongst others at their same level in various events such as the America League, National League, Duets and Concertos. The main two events were 2 Solo Competitions and Evaluations. The top three students in each level received trophies.
Congratulations Emily! We are very proud of you. Good luck at your contest in February!

Gay Straight Alliance News
On November 20, Transgender Day of Remembrance, many of us took part in candle lighting vigils across the county to honor all those whose lives were lost to anti-transgender violence. Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR) was started by transgender advocate Gwendolyn Ann Smith as a vigil to honor her memory of Rita Hester, a transgender woman who was killed in 1998. The vigil commemorated all the transgender people lost to violence that year and began an important memorial that has become the annual Transgender Day of Remembrance.
As we move forward in the upcoming months the GSA will begin preparation for the school-wide "No Name Calling Week" campaign. All student allies are welcome to attend meeting, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. Meeting are held on Wednesday's in Room A-11 from 2:20-3:20. Should you have any questions please contact Lynn Fonacier, School Social Worker at ([email protected])
