Dear Friends, A lot of homes were damaged in the storms last weekend. We also suffered damage at the Parish Centre at Sunnybank. We have had the assessors in during the week and they have found that 5 skylights in the Church, 3 skylights in the Presbytery and 1 in the Parish Office have been damaged. Also 6 red glass planes beside the Sanctuary have been damaged. A big thank you to those who helped clean up the Church before the 6.00pm Mass last Saturday evening and those who cleaned up outside the Church before the 6:30am Mass on Sunday morning. The insurance will cover most of the damage. The Catholic Leader has a very positive story about the Church at Sunnybank this weekend. It has a story about how we are refurbishing and expanding the Church. Our architects are working very hard now on drawing up the final plans. We are launching a fundraising appeal this weekend to assist financially some of the works that will take place as we refurbish and expand. As always, thank you for your consideration in assisting this great project. The Parishes Pastoral Council meets for the last time this year this Thursday evening. Thank you to our Pastoral Councillors from both our Parishes who have served on the Pastoral Council this year. They have quietly gone about their business of assisting all the activities of our Parishes. As Christmas draws near we ask your help for our St Vincent de Paul Conferences in both our Parishes. Your assistance in collecting groceries for Christmas hampers would be very much appreciated. Groceries including hams, cakes and pudding can be left at the back of the Church. (Toys are not being collect this year). In both our Parishes, the annual St Vincent de Paul Christmas Appeal will be taken up on the first weekend of December. Advent begins in two weeks time. The ”Break Open the Word” books are available in the Piety Stall at both our Churches. All readers are encouraged to buy the “Break Open the Word” books for $10 to assist them in preparing to read at Mass on Sunday. The “Little Blue Book” is available on the table at the entrance of the Church, for $4.00. The “Little Blue Book” contains a reading and reflection for every day during Advent. This could be the good way to prepare for Christmas and to “Keep Christ in Christmas”. Christmas cards with a genuine Christmas message are available at our Piety Stalls. I always appreciate having a picture containing some of the Christmas message on the Christmas card instead of Santa, snow or reindeers. I have nothing against Santa, but I like to “Keep Christ in Christmas” in whatever way I can. You may like to buy a Christmas crib which is also available at the piety stall. Thirty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time: Year B

Introduction: Christ, our High Priest, has offered one single sacrifice for sins, and then taken his place for ever, at the right hand of God. It is our privilege to offer ourselves to the Father in union with his eternal offering.

First Reading: Daniel 12: 1-3 Faith in the resurrection begins to find expression in the context of persecutions and distress, as we read in the prophecy of Daniel.

Second Reading: Hebrews 10: 11- 14.8 By virtue of the one single offering he made of himself on the cross, Jesus has achieved the eternal perfection of all whom he is making holy.

Gospel: Mark 13: 24-32 The end of the world as it was before Jesus and the beginning of the new creation achieved by his dying and rising are always near at hand. We need the eyes of faith in order to be able to read the signs of the times.
