We acknowledge the Mouheneener People, the traditional custodians of this land on which we gather for worship.

This church seeks to be a place of safety and acceptance for all people.

Mark 5

Subliminal zones. These are the spooky places where pious people seldom tread. Strange things can happen there, things of which we dare not speak. Evil lurks in the shadows, snide and smug with the knowledge that our fear feeds it…allowing it to flourish. This is the home of “Legion”. Whooooo! So here is Jesus, in a setting that flew in the face of reli-gious purity, talking to a man who in the eyes of the law would defile his holiness. And yet he is at peace and in command. Not content with this contamination, Jesus is touched by a woman with an in-curable hemorrhage! Is he contaminated? No. She is made whole! Then he enters a house where their lies a child, dead. And she is raised to health! Shall I go on? Jesus sleeps in the storm above the mirky primordial chaos of the sea. He associates with tax collectors and sinners! He enters the homes of gentiles! “Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I shall fear no evil” (Palm 23) “God is bigger than the Boogie Man….” (Vegie Tales)

Bread Tags for Wheelchairs Mission Club which operates out of Scots –Memorial UC has asked that we support their project of collecting bread tags for wheelchairs. Please save your bread bag tags and place them in the container provided at the back of the Church.

Rock Pool At Rock Pool we have witnessed the power of prayer, both silent and spoken, to work in releasing goodness, healing and wholeness for people within our com-munity and beyond. Bronwyn and, to a lesser extent, Judith, are going to be away at times during August/ September. We would however like the Rock Pool space to be used whether we are here or not. Please come along to our corner space on Fridays at 3, sit quietly if alone, or share with others. Bring along your own resources to share, use the books left, sit quietly and enjoy the view giving thanks to God, and talk to God about what’s on your mind. Pray for any situation that you are aware of, or that comes to mind. Keys to the church are available from Scott, or you may be able to liaise with others who have an interest in quiet meditation and prayer about who might be attending.

Thriving Ministry Leadership - lessons from a duck, an echidna and a tree Andrew McDonough, best known as the author and illustrator of the Lost Sheep books, is coming to Tasmania! Sunday Aug 11th, 11.30-2.30 Clarence Uniting Church BYO lunch, $10 cost for session. Register and pay on-line: https://www.trybooking.com/book/event?eid=514784& Registration appreciated by Wednesday 7 August More information or off-line registration: 03 9340 8800 or [email protected] Andrew will also highlight his latest book - Jesus was a refugee.

Prayer If anyone would like prayer for yourself, others, or for any situation, please join one of the Church Council members in the Rockpool corner (near the piano) after the service. If you prefer more privacy we can go into the vestry.

The Discussion Group which focuses on Richard Rohr’s contemplations has start-ed again on Wednesdays at 1.30pm and will meet for 2 more weeks. The topic for these sessions will be looking at Jesus’ humanity and divinity. All are welcome. Any queries talk to Kaye Cooke.

You may have noticed that we have moved the Children’s Ministry area to the back of the Church, we hope this will enable better hearing for those with hearing aids.
