Lord Jesus Christ, you told your disciples: “Where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there among them.” Trusting in your promise, we come together for our Fourth Diocesan Synod.
Send us your Holy Spirit that we may participate in this Synod with passion, imagination and love. Give us, we pray, the gifts of wisdom, knowledge, courage and - above all - charity. Help us to grow in unity and mutual respect. Guide us on the path of the New Evangelization as we plan for the future of the Church in Fairfield County.
Bless our Bishop, Clergy, Reli-gious and Faithful. May all that we do reflect your divine plan.
We pray all this in your name, who are Lord for ever and ever.
Amen.
Our Lady of Fatima, Patroness of our Diocesan Synod, intercede for us! Saint John XXIII, pray for us. Saint John Paul II, pray for us.
St. Matthew Parish has been selected to participate in a national study of vibrant parishes conducted by the Catholic Leadership Institute!
Please help us participate by completing a 10-15 minute survey online. The survey will be emailed to you by [email protected]. The survey will only be available from the week of January 18 through Ash Wednesday, February 10 and will ask you to reflect on your own spiritual growth and enable you to provide feedback on what efforts the parish is doing to help you grow. All responses will be kept confidential and the parish will only receive information about the community as a whole.
We are trying to get the highest response rate possible. This information will be invaluable to our Parish and to our various ministries as we plan ahead and try to be the best disciples we can be. We will receive the results this summer at which time we will share what we have learned with the entire parish.

ST. MATTHEW PARISH SELECTED TO PARTICIPATE IN NATIONAL STUDY!

Dear Parishioners of Saint Matthew Church,
It started as a small request of Monsignor Walter - would the confirmation class help support the Child Guidance Center of Mid-Fairfield County here in Norwalk by volunteering? Instead he suggested that the entire parish would happily help less fortunate children and families during Advent. From that moment on, your generosity never stopped. Jackets and sneakers for 75 children and some of their siblings seemed like a big request, but amazingly all of the tags we submitted were snapped up by you that same day. We created more tags for hats, gloves and toys and they too were taken. Each of the religious formation classes also provided many everyday necessities for the children who are counseled at the Center.
Imagine the look on our faces when we came to church and saw the overflowing Advent trees. As we packed up, more gifts continued to arrive. In Monsignor’s sermon on that last Sunday in Advent, he spoke about the person who bought 12 coats, another talented person knitted many beautiful hats, someone left gorgeous flowers on the altar. We are still stunned by this outpouring of support; you are a parish of generous and kind people who respond when asked. You are a community in the truest sense of the word.
Carol Cosgrove helped us navigate how to get it done, Jean Marie DesRochers gave us guidance with the classes, Mariko Dahl loaned us volunteers from 6th, 7th, and 8th grades to pack up the gifts. Our thanks go to the entire parish. Because of your contributions, the families at the Child Guidance Center received those much needed gifts and will have ongoing access to a closet of basic supplies.

Hospital Visitations / Home Visits Let Us Know You Are There!
Due to the Federal health privacy laws (HIPPA), hospitals can no longer issue names of admitted patients to area parishes unless it is requested by the patient. You or a family member must let the Admissions Office know of your desire to have us visit during your hospital stay. They are also not allowed to give any information about your release whether to home or rehab. Upon discharge, you may call Sr. Sally at 203-838-3788, ext. 118, if you would like a visit at home or at a rehabilitation center.
