Thanksgiving Food Drive Once again we will be collecting food to fill 75 Thanksgiving food baskets for families affiliated with the Care Center for Christ, The Williamson Trade School in Media, as well as other families in need in our community. Here’s what’s needed:

1 cake mix 1 can frosting 1 jar applesauce (lg.) 2 cans cranberry sauce 2 boxes stuffing 1 box mashed potatoes (13.5 oz.) 2 jars gravy 2 cans yams (40 oz.) 2 cans corn 2 cans green beans

Please sign up in the narthex for individual food items or elect to sponsor a family by purchasing an entire basket. Collections will continue until November 12 when our Sunday School children will sort and fill the boxes. Please remember to check your name off on the sheet when you bring your items in. And, if you have any leftover Halloween candy, please bring it in and we’ll put it in the food baskets. Thank you.

The 500th

Anniversary of the Reformation is NOT just for Lutherans. You are invited to a big ecumenical gathering – Lutherans and Episcopalians and Catholics and more – at the Episcopal Cathedral in Philadelphia this Sunday, October 29 at 3:00pm. The Rev. Dr. Gordon Lathrop will be one of two featured speakers; he is a nationally known (retired) seminary professor in the field of liturgy and worship. “Gather with Christians of all traditions as we celebrate our unity in Christ while heeding God’s call to renew the church.” The Philadelphia Episcopal Cathedral is at 23 S. 38

th Street, Philadelphia. All Saints Day Roses - Order Now for 11/5

Sign up in the hall or respond to this email to order your All Saints Day roses in memory of loved ones. Include how many roses and the message. $3 per rose. Place your cash/check in the offering basket or mail to the office. You can pick up your rose(s) after the second service. Deadline is this Sunday.

You’ll get through this. It won’t be painless. It won’t be quick. But God will use this mess for good. Don’t be foolish or naïve. But don’t despair either. With God’s help, you’ll get through this.

Introducing a new 6-session DVD series featuring Max Lucado

“You’ll Get Through This: hope and help for your turbulent times.”

Using the Joseph story as the Bible base, Max Lucado shares what it means to have God with you in tough times. The series starts the week of November 5

th,

with sessions on Sunday mornings, Monday mornings, and Tuesday evenings. There will be a 20 minute DVD presentation, followed by group discussion. Sign up in the hall.

Adapted Sports Biking (Love Does ministry) Cycling for the physically disabled takes place every Sunday at 1:00 -- the Chester County Trail. This is the last Sunday for biking for the season.

Dear Members & Friends: The next few pages list many upcoming events taking place here at St. Paul’s or in the local area. For information,

call the office at 610-363-6264, or email: [email protected], or visit us on-line at: www.stpaulslionville.org.

We welcome you and invite you to participate in all of our activities. All are invited for fellowship in the narthex’s fellowship room after services.

We have new red Reformation 500 coffee/tea mugs to replace the 175th anniversary white mugs. Please get yours after the service for only a small contribution of 500 cents in honor of the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation. Complete your collection of St. Paul's blue, white and red mugs.

REMINDER: Here at St. Paul’s we celebrate Advent starting in November to help us prepare for the upcoming Christmas season. Then the couple weeks between the end of Advent and Christmas are celebratory Sundays. So just a reminder that the First Sunday of Advent is November 12th, which is about 2 1/2 weeks away.

In Touch Coordinators: Breakfast Meeting Nov. 12 at 9:30 AM in the Fellowship Hall. Come enjoy a German-inspired breakfast as we explore Lutheran Christmas traditions--from candles to Chrismons--in honor of the 500 Anniversary of the Reformation. Christmas cards will be available for pick up at the meeting. Questions: contact Kirsten McCurdy at [email protected].

If you are interested in joining this ministry that connects with our St. Paul's members, please come to the breakfast and find out more or contact Cherie Baker at [email protected] or Kirsten McCurdy at [email protected].

About the In Touch Ministry--The focus of the In Touch Ministry is to connect with St. Paul's members a few times a year via cards, email, phone, etc. The volunteers in this ministry are assigned about 3 to 10 families to keep "in touch" with. The volunteers also pray for these families on a regular basis. The ministry is open to any adult member, including college students and high school youth and the volunteer commitment is minimal and flexible. There are two group breakfast meetings a year, spring and fall, which meet on Sunday morning between services.

Isaac’s Youth Fundrsr - Monday, November 6

It’s a community night dinner fundraiser at Isaac’s here in Lionville from 5-9:00pm--eat in, on-line ordering, or take-out. 25% of your meal cost will go to our youth for their mission trip to Houston. Bring the flyer with you (available in the narthex), or use the coupon code FUND on-line. Add an Isaac Gift Card to your check and 15% of that sale will also be added. (It must be used on a future visit to count.)

Hit the polling station on Tuesday, November 7 to vote and then enjoy dinner out at Ron’s Original Bar & Grill in Exton. It’s a

community night fundraiser from 4 PM to 9 PM that night to benefit Safe Harbor Homeless Shelter of West Chester, and 15% of your meal cost will go directly to help them. We’ve been working with Safe Harbor for many years, and this is another way that we can support them. Pick up a flyer that you’ll need to present when ordering or take the one found in this bulletin on page 5.

High School Camp Innabah Retreat Nov. 3 - 5; MS Retreat JYG Nov. 11 -12

Penny Wars continue between St. Paul’s and St. Matthew’s. On a monthly basis the church that either has the most positive amount of money raised (or the least negative) will win the coveted trophy. The jugs will be collected the last Sunday of the month and the results calculated. All the money collected (positive & negative) will be credited to the church that collected it, so no matter what variety of coins/paper bills you donate, your youth benefit.

Envelope Drive starts this Sunday. We will be offering a way for everyone to simply make a cash donation to help defer the cost of attending the National Youth Gathering for the 28 youth and adults. It is estimated that the per person cost will be approximately $1,400. Simply take an envelope marked with a suggested donation amount, include your donation and return it to the office or put it in the collection plate.

Boxes Needed Save boxes for the food drive. Paper boxes with lids would be great. Bring them to the church and we will store them in the parsonage. If you plan on purchasing a complete Thanksgiving dinner and you can bring your purchases in a box with a lid that would also be helpful. Thank you.

TRIP TO THE HOLY LANDS Join a local Rabbi and a local Lutheran pastor as they lead a group to Israel and the Palestinian territories in February and March of next year. Pick up a trifold brochure in the hallway if you are interested, or contact the office to get a registration form.

Rejoicing Spirits Svc Sun., Nov. 12th, 4pm Our next Rejoicing Spirits service is next Sunday, Nov. 12th at 4:00pm. Volunteers are asked to be there by 3:30pm. Come join us--all are welcome!

Community Thanksgiving Service, Sunday November 19, 7:00PM The ecumenical Thanksgiving Service by the Ministerium will be held Sunday evening, November 19th, at Grove UMC on Boot Road. Pastor Mark is the presiding pastor.

Join us for this special service involving many of our local churches. Refreshments will be served.

Do you like pancakes? If so, come out and support Boy Scout Troop 216 at their

pancake breakfast at Applebees at 174 Eagleview Blvd on November 18th.

From 8 - 10 am, the scouts will be serving up unlimited pancakes, sausages and beverages for only $7.00. Tickets are available at the door, or you can contact Karen Milkiewicz at [email protected] to get your tickets ahead of time. We'd love to see you there!"

Eagle Scout Project Help Needed One of St. Paul’s Boy Scouts is building a fire pit here at St. Paul’s for his Eagle badge. It is turning out to be

more expensive than we thought it would be, so we are looking for donations. If interested in helping out, please put your donation in an envelope and mark it Eagle Scout project. Thank you. John Ward, Property Chairman

Thank you to everyone that helped at the Youth Silent Auction, donated goods or services to be auctioned and/or purchased goods or services. We raised over $1,700 to be used to help offset the cost for the 28 youth and adults attending the National Youth Gathering in Houston. (Estimated cost per person is $1,500.) Some goods and services are still available for purchase so please look for them at the Spaghetti Dinner on November 17th. Tickets for the dinner go on sale THIS Sunday so please make sure you purchase them. We will only sell a limited number at the door.

We will be kicking off an “envelope drive” this Sunday so be looking for that as well. Penny wars continue between the two churches and the coveted trophy will be awarded to the "winning" church at the beginning of each month. Our next Dine-In fundraiser will be at Isaac's on November 6th, 5-9pm, so please look for the flyer in the narthex. Thank you from the YOUTH!
