Parents Needed for Spooktacular Bingo On October 24
The Sanders Corner PTA is looking for help from parents in the final preparations for Spooktacular Bingo, which will take place on Saturday, September 24. If you are able to help, please click on the link below:

Calling All Veterans! It’s that time of year where we begin to plan for our Annual Veteran’s Day Assembly. The assembly will be held on Wednesday, November 11 at 8:15 AM. It will feature our “Parade of Veterans” and musical tribute by the 2nd Grade. We invite all family members of Sanders Corner students that are Veterans of our Armed Forces. SCES Partners With Hairport for Backpack Friends Campaign
This school year Sanders Corner is incredibly appreciative and excited to again be
partnering with Hairport Salon, located off of Harry Byrd Hwy in Ashburn, Virginia. During the month of October, Hairport Salon is hosting three fundraising events to raise awareness and support for our Backpack Friends program here at Sanders Corner Elementary School. Sanders Corner ES offers a Backpack Friends program that provides non-perishable food items to participating students for the weekend. Hairport is excited to host one more food drive to support our Backpack Friends program. On Saturday, October 24th, clients that bring in 12 food items (see list below) will receive $8.00 off their service. All food items* will be donated directly to Sanders Corner. On Sunday, October 25th, Hair Port Salon is hosting a “CUT-A-THON” where all services and gratuities will be directly donated to the Sanders Corner Backpack Friends Program. During the all-day “CUT-A-THON” Hair Port will have a silent auction, a bake sale, and sell raffle tickets for great prizes. All of the proceeds will be donated directly to our Backpack Friends Program at Sanders Corner. We are very grateful to have Hairport’s support again this year. Their generosity and commitment to supporting our school is inspiring. * Food Items: Individual cereal, pop tarts, breakfast bars, small cans of tuna, chicken, macaroni & cheese, Chef Boyardee, individual fruit cups, applesauce, individual cheese crackers, cookies, Goldfish, Rice Krispie treats, 100% fruit juice or milk boxes.
Making A Difference 5K The Making a Difference 5k is still accepting applications for their annual run. The foundation is excited to offer a discount for all Sanders students, staff, and families participating in this year’s race! The price for the race is $30, with a discount of $5 for SCES families. As you may be aware, the Grand Opening of Middleburg Bank at Sanders Corner took place this past October 7th in the company of students, parents, Loudoun County Public Schools officials, and other members of the Ashburn community. Thank you for participating and making this program a reality!
As a reminder, we wanted to encourage the young savers at Sanders Corner to bring their deposits only the days the Bank is open for business. The bank is open the first and third Wednesdays of the month from 7:30AM-7:50AM. Here listed are the upcoming bank dates until the month of December:

As one of the many parts of our financial literacy partnership with Sanders Corner, we would like to invite your kids for a guided tour of our Ashburn Financial Service Center, so they can take an inside look at how banks operate today.

Bring your CHECKBOOK OR CASH Everyone is encouraged to wear appropriate Halloween costumes (no weapons or masks please). Come see some of our fabulously bewitched teachers and administrators dressed in their favorite
costumes! Don’t miss out on this ghostly fantastic evening with your family! We look forward to seeing all of our spooky friends at Spooktacular Bingo! The proceeds of the event will go towards PTA initiatives such as Educational Supplies for teachers and Cultural Arts assemblies for students!

Dear Parents and Families:
Reading for pleasure inside and outside of school has real and long-lasting benefits. It unlocks the
power of information and imagination and helps children discover who they are. Here’s what you can do
to help children develop stronger reading skills and a love for reading:
Set the example. Let children see you read.
Have a collection of books in your home. Update this collection routinely to keep pace with
changing tastes and reading skills.
Support our school’s Book Fair. Allow your children to choose their own books to read.
Our Scholastic Book Fair is a reading event that brings the books kids want to read right into our
school. It’s a wonderful selection of engaging and affordable books for every reading level. Please
make plans to visit our Book Fair and be involved in shaping your child’s reading habits.
