DearSisters and Brothers in Christ,

As we journeyed through the Season of Lent, our thoughts may have turned to places of the Holy Land where our Lord lived, ministered, died, and rose from the dead. You may have been blessed to experience these holy places first hand. Whether first hand or a passage from the bible, our memories bring this ancient land to life. However, the reality of the current situa-tion in the Holy Land often does not match the scenes of our imagination.

On Good Friday, the annual collection taken in our churches will benefit Christians living in the Holy Land, as well as support the ministries of the Franciscan friars entrusted with its care. For almost 800 years, the Franciscans have cared for the principal shrines of our Christian faith. The work of the friars also includes the care of refu-gees and those marginalized people throughout the region and the preservation of the Holy Land’s missions and schools. These schools and parishes are signs of present, as well as future,

peace and hope. The Collection for the Holy Land, in the words of Paul VI is “not only for the Holy Places but above all for those pastoral, charitable, educational, and social works which the Church supports in the Holy Land for the welfare of their Christian brethren and of the local communities.” The Pontifical Good Friday Collection is applied to these programs below:

Faith, Memory & Culture – The Holy PlacesHoly Land Franciscans staff and maintain the Holy places and shrines. This enables those who live in the Holy Land and those who visit to deepen their faith and their spiritual and cultur-al connection to Salvation history.

Social & Charitable ActivitiesIn order to assist Christians to remain in the Holy Land, including the poor and young cou-ples, the Custody builds thousands of residen-tial units. Additionally, they build senior care facilities. Medical assistance is provided for the needy. Continued on insert
