LIGHTING OF THE ADVENT CANDLE - CANDLE OF JOY ANN DAVIS, ANNE HUGHES, ANNE NICOLSON, ANN RHEA AND ANN STARKS ADVENT HYMN #88 - O COME, O COME EMMANUEL (VS. 1-3) CONGREGATIONAL ADVENT PRAYER This is Advent, the season of promise. In our worship, our hearts, and in our lives, we prepare for the birth of a baby in a dusty stable in Bethlehem, and remind ourselves that this child will become and already is the Saviour of the World who will return again in power and glory to draw all of his children together with songs of everlasting praise. The promise of the baby is also the promise of eternal life to all who believe. God of hope and promise, be with us throughout this Advent season and draw us ever closer as we sojourn together toward Christ your Son, our Saviour. Amen. ANNOUNCEMENTS + HYMN #100 MY SOUL CRIES WITH A JOYFUL SHOUT MINUTE FOR MISSION - REMEMBERING SOPHIA OLAITAN PRAYER OF CONFESSION AND ASSURANCE OF GRACE We have cut off access, O God. Each of us, in our own way, has cut off access out of

relationships, out of opportunities, out of our truest home, because we are too arrogant, or too stubborn, or simply too human. We have filled our lives and our world with darkness and death, because we have, all too often, put our own judgment and desires over yours and not cared for the desires of others. We are lost, in need of light and hope and joy.

SILENCE: Come, Lord Jesus; forgive us and restore us. Come, Lord Jesus; guide us and deliver us. Come, Lord Jesus; teach us and renew us. Come, Lord Jesus.

+ RITUAL OF FRIENDSHIP IN CHRIST Assured of God’s grace, we are set free to greet our neighbors with the peace of Christ. Please place prayer requests on green sheets and place in one of the baskets in the window.

+ JOYFUL RESPONSE #283 WA WA WA EMIMIMO CHILDREN’S TIME

Children gather at the front with a pastor, then PreK-1st graders may leave with their leaders for Mustard Seeds.

SHARING JOYS AND CONCERNS PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE & THE LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

COME LET’S MAGNIFY THE LORD

Come, let’s magnify the Lord for He is worthy to be praised (repeat) Hosanna, blessed be the rock, Blessed be the rock of our salvation (repeat)

I will magnify the Lord . . .

MY HEART SINGS OUT Text: Ruth Duck | Tune: CAROL CMD

My heart sings out with joyful praise To God who raises me, Who came to me when I was low And changed my destiny. The Holy One, the Living God, Is always full of grace To those who seek their Maker’s will In ev’ry time and place.

The arm of God is strong and just To scatter all the proud. The tyrants tumble from their thrones And vanish like a cloud. The hungry all are satisfied: The rich are sent away. The poor of earth who suffer long Will welcome God’s new day.

The promise made in ages past At last has come to be, For God has come in pow’r to save, To set all people free. Rememb’ring those who wait to see Salvation’s dawning day. Our Savior comes to all who weep To wipe their tears away.

WE SHALL BEHOLD HIM (refrain) By Dottie Rambo

We shall behold Him, We shall behold Him Face to face in all of His glory We shall behold Him, We shall behold Him Face to face our Savior and Lord
