PRAYER OF PREPARATION

On this Labor Day Weekend, remind us God, that it is not thework of our hands alone that brings salvation in this world; butthe work of our hands by your will and your strength alone.Strengthen us Lord in this next hour, that renewed by ourworship we might mount up like eagles, that we might walk andnot grow weary. AMEN.

PRELUDE “Simple Gifts” Arr. Cindy Berry

*CALL TO WORSHIP “Lord, I Lift Your Name on High” Rick Founds

Lord, I lift your name on high;Lord, I love to sing your praises.

I’m so glad you’re in my life;I’m so glad you came to save us.

You came from heaven to earth to show the way,from the earth to the cross my debt to pay;

from the cross to the grave, from the grave to the sky;Lord, I lift your name on high.

*CALL TO CONFESSION

*PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Leader: God of Creation, you made us for work and themeaning it brings to our lives; and it was good, verygood. On this Labor day we confess that we have usedyour purposed labor in our lives for things that are notgood, not good at all. For some of us our work hasbecome the meaning in our lives. Without our work,we have to admit, we don't know who we are or theworth you created in us.

People: Forgive us, Lord.

Leader: For some of us, we have settled for work that doesn'tfulfill us, because we are afraid to seek and developthe skills you gave us at our birth. We find it hard totrust that you will provide a vocation that fits ourgiftedness.

People: Forgive us, Lord.

Leader: For some of us, we don't work in a way that glorifiesyou. We do things at work or at home that are not ourbest efforts. We go in late and leave early. We makepromises we do not fulfill. We are not honest, Lord.

(continued)

People: Forgive us, Lord.

Leader: God of Redemption and Power, On this Labor day, maywe see our work in a new light; as preparation for yourreturn and another way of glorifying you, even as weseek to be a sure presence of Jesus Christ in our worldtoday. AMEN. (Please take a moment for silentconfession.)
