TODAY!! GOD-SPEED LESLIE ROHDE! Sunday, September 24th – 10 am On August 24, 2017 our Director of Youth Ministries,
Leslie Rohde, left the staff of Bethel Lutheran Church. She resigned two weeks earlier to pursue a different
calling. As she writes in her letter of resignation, “It has not been an easy choice to make. I have really enjoyed working and learning as your youth director for the last year and a half and feel that my time at Bethel has been
very educational. However, through discernment I have come to realize that youth ministry is not my calling.”
We gratefully appreciate the love, creativity, and faith that you have shared
with our youth and families. God has blessed you with the ability to go above and beyond for the underdog, your friends, and those in need. We will gather to thank Leslie for her year and a half of ministry at Bethel on today during the coffee hour. Please join us as we thank her and bid her
God-speed.
Justice and Peace Adult Education
Sunday September 24, October 1 “…And work for Justice and Peace in all the world.”
We say and promise to do this together every time we bring a child or an
adult to the baptismal font. And it always seems like a really daunting
promise to make. Yet, we renew it every time. Ever think—what exactly
does this mean? What is it that we promise when we say this? Join
Pastor Erika for a two-part Adult Education forum between services in
the Faith Center on September 24 and October 1 to chase this question.

Flamingo the Lawns
Attention, attention! Pink flamingoes will be invading Wahpeton
and Breckenridge soon! Starting September 3rd, we will be having
a flamingo fundraiser for the 2018 National Youth Gathering.
Here’s how it works:
1) Spend $30 to spread flamingo repellant on your lawn or risk
your front yard being invaded by flamingoes! There will be a
booth on Sunday after the 9am service and on Wednesday nights
once confirmation and Wednesday School has started back up.
2) Spend $20 to flamingo someone else’s lawn. Flamingoes will
stay from Sunday to Weds or Weds to Sunday.
3) If you’re worried about the flamingo invasion, act now!
Flamingo invasion season is throughout September and October,
so if you get invaded once and are worried about it a second time,
you can still buy flamingo repellent for the rest of flamingo
season!
4) Spend $10 to get them off your lawn earlier.
Did you Know? For your information --- Bethel Quilters sent 21 quilts/blankets to the Police Department in Aransas Pass, Texas (near Corpus Christi) with the Dilworth, MN Police Department. The Police had hoped to be able to fill a trailer and take it to Texas over Labor Day weekend. The community was very generous --- they filled 2 trailers with bedding and other supplies for Hurricane Harvey victims. We saved $150 in postage by sending our boxes of quilts with the Dilworth Police Department. They had applied for a Travel Grant to cover their expenses. 18 quilts will be given to residents of the recent apartment fire in Wahpeton. In October we will be sending 15 quilts on the Lutheran World Relief truck. We are thankful that 87 quilts have been given in 2017 to assist with needs lo-cally, elsewhere in our country, and globally. Bethel women have applied for and received six $250 grants from Thrivent Financial (total $1,500). These grants have been used to buy fabric, batting and other quilting supplies. We have also made capes for children in local hospitals. Last Fall, a Thrivent grant covered the ex-penses for the meal at our fundraising breakfast. All Thrivent members are encouraged to apply for a grant for any project at Bethel of your choosing. Thanks to all the Bethel members and friends for giving donations and memorial to our Quilting fund. Without your assistance, we couldn’t do all these projects. New members are always welcome and encouraged to join the quilting group. Come as you are– no experience needed!
