What is Cross LaminatedTimber (CLT)?

• Layers of dimension lumber stacked crosswise and glued on theirwide faces. Adhesives follow requirements of Glulam beams.

• Width and thickness of laminations vary (2.4 9.5” wide, 5/8 2” thick)• Lumber is ~12%MC prior to manufacture,

• Two way slab with odd number of layers identifyingy y y gprimary strength direction.

• Manufactured panels are typically 8 10’ wide andup to 20” thick and up to 64’ long.

• Finished panels are planed, sanded, cut to size. Then openings are cutwith precise CNC routers.

• Third party inspection at factory.

• Custom engineered formaterial efficiency.material efficiency.

• Custom designed forproject.

FrequentlyAskedQuestions:

1. How are MEP Systems accommodated with CLT?.

• Rout and bore the panel to take the electrical conduit, plumbingpipes andmechanical chases. This can be done on site withtraditional carpentry tools or in the factory using CNC technology, but the latter would require more coordination and would increasethe cost of the product.

h ll d h l k l b h• Fur the wall out to accommodate MEP.This is likely to be the morecommonmethod in NorthAmerica based on our building practicesand need to satisfy sound insulation requirements.

How do youminimize product costs?

1. Use the minimum thickness possiblep1. Floors are usually controlled by vibrations.2. Fire rating requirements can effect thickness of panel.

2. Minimize material waste1. Keep in mind press sizes available.2. Selection of splice type effects %waste.3. Openings can be accommodated with out cutting holes in panels.

3 Minimize factory CNC work3. Minimize factory CNC work1. Consider field accommodation techniques for MEP2. Openings can be accommodated with out cutting holes in panels.
