Hi Russell & Lesley,Thank you both for attending the 10th. Batthurst Annual Ball on the 24th August 2019 at the Charles Sturt Uni in the C.D. Blake Auditorium in Bathurst. with over 140 elite dancers at-tending from all across the state and even couples from Victoria.

The timely music was supplied by Phil & Esther from Parkes. The venue this year was no other then superb, the floor was very light and there was lots of space to move freely around.

A wonderful supper was supplied by the ladies attending the ball and a very big thank you to those ladies. This years theme was Blue and was amazing to see how every one got into the blue theme.

We are looking at making some changes to next years ball so as the dancers can have a choice of which dance they want to do, with such a large venue there is room to expand & spread our wings. On the Sunday after around 100 dancers stayed over and enjoyed another informal day dancing to the music of Barry's Country Vogue. The whole weekend was just fantas-tic and thank you to all that attended, we are looking forward to having you all back on the forth Saturday 22nd August 2020.

Kind regards,

Keith & Jenny Francis.

Recently our dance group lead by Marlena & Brian Welch gathered for a photo shoot at the Whiddon Aged Care Facility (Batthurst) be-fore entertaining the residents during an afternoon.

A man decides to have a face-lift for his birthday. He spends $5,000 and feels really good about the results. On his way home, he stops at a newsstand and buys a paper. Before leaving, he says to the salesclerk, "I hope you don't mind me asking, but how old do you think I am?" "About 35," was the reply. "I'm actually 47," the man says, feeling re-ally happy. After that, he goes into McDonalds for lunch and asks the clerk the same question. The reply is, "Oh, you look about 29". "I am actually 47." Later, while standing at a bus stop, he asks an old woman the same question. She replies, "I am 85 years old, and my eyesight is going. But when I was young, there was a sure way of telling a man's age. If I put my hand down your pants and play with your balls for 10 minutes, I will be able to tell you your exact age." As there was no one around, the man thinks, what the hell and lets her slip her hand down his pants. Ten minutes later, the old lady says, "Okay, it's done. You are 47." Stunned, the man says, "That was brilliant. How did you do that?" The old lady replies, "I was behind you at McDonalds.”

47th. Monte Cristo BallOur dance group gathered for a photo or two on arrival at the Ghostly Ball held at the MonteCristo Homstead. Hosted by Olive Ryan and son Lawrence the evening began with Sherries and punch with finger food followed by a sumptuous two course dinner before being called into the ball room by Josh Turner, our MC for an evening of old style and new vogue dancing, during the evening and after a welcome speech Olive presided and presed and bestowed many giftes for best dressed, scariest costume, best couple and more.

The music provided by LRE Dance (Russell & Lesley) was delightful and suited the atmosphere of the event.

As always the hilight of the evening is the dancing of the Monte Cristo Roylene, danced only at this event with music specific to the dance, ably presented by Gloria & Josh followed by instruction it was per-formed with great elegance.Sunday started with a brunch where all guests were invited to par-take of another feast before once again entering the ballroom for more dancing and an explode of the property and buildings before leaving and going our own ways.

Beechworth Dancing

On Tuesday the 10th of September, 2019 Beechworth Dancing were extended an invitation to dance in the Community Hall at the Beechworth Hospital for the Residents of Stringy Bark and Acacia.

Our audience travelled down Memory Lane with familiar tunes being played and dances danced in the Community Hall. The Dancers chatted, danced and mingled with the excited Residents as the afternoon slipped by. The Staff commenting how everybody was singing, swaying and humming as the familiar songs and dances filled their hearts with joy.

It was a delight for the Beechworth Dancers meeting both Residents and Staff and taking part in the afternoon. A delicious Afternoon Tea was supplied by the Hospital Staff and our Dancers concluded the afternoon gifting a bunch of double bloom daffodils for each of the Stringy Bark and Acacia Residents. A number of our Dancers negotiated with their Employer to be a part of the event while others made time to participate in our afternoon. A “Thank You” to all.

Many of us are between 65 and death, i.e. old. My friend sent me this excellent list for ageing . . . and I

have to agree it's good advice to follow.1. It’s time to use the money you saved up. Use it and enjoy it. Don’t just keep it for those who may have no notion of the sacrifices you made to get it. Remember there is nothing more dangerous than a son or daughter-in-law with big ideas for your hard-earned capital. Warning: This is also a bad time for investments, even if it seems wonderful or fool-proof. They only bring problems and worries. This is a time for you to enjoy some peace and quiet.

2. Stop worrying about the financial situation of your children and grandchildren, and don’t feel bad spending your money on yourself. You’ve taken care of them for many years, and you’ve taught them what you could. You gave them an education, food, shelter and support. The responsibility is now theirs to earn their own money.

3. Keep a healthy life, without great physical effort. Do moderate ex-ercise (like walking every day), eat well and get your sleep. It’s easy to become sick, and it gets harder to remain healthy. That is why you need to keep yourself in good shape and be aware of your medical and physical needs. Keep in touch with your doctor, do tests even when you’re feeling well. Stay informed.

4. Always buy the best, most beautiful items for your significant other. The key goal is to enjoy your money with your partner. One day one of you will miss the other, and the money will not provide any comfort then, enjoy it together

5. Don’t stress over the little things. Like paying a little extra on price quotes. You’ve already overcome so much in your life. You have good memories and bad ones, but the important thing is the present. Don’t let the past drag you down and don’t let the future frighten you. Feel good in the now. Small issues will soon be forgotten.

6. Regardless of age, always keep love alive. Love your partner, love life, love your family, love your neighbor and remember: “A man is not old as long as he has intelligence and affection.”

7. Be proud, both inside and out. Don’t stop going to your hair salon or barber, do your nails, go to the dermatologist and the dentist, keep your perfumes and creams well stocked. When you are well-maintained on the outside, it seeps in, making you feel proud and strong.

8. Don’t lose sight of fashion trends for your age, but keep your own sense of style. There’s nothing worse than an older person trying to wear the current fashion among youngsters. You’ve developed your own sense of what looks good on you – keep it and be proud of it. It’s part of who you are.

9. ALWAYS stay up-to-date. Read newspapers, watch the news. Go on-line and read what people are saying. Make sure you have an active email account and try to use some of those social networks. You’ll be surprised what old friends you’ll meet. Keeping in touch with what is going on and with the people you know is important at any age.

10. Respect the younger generation and their opinions. They may not have the same ideals as you, but they are the future, and will take the world in their direction. Give advice, not criticism, and try to remind

them that yesterday’s wisdom still applies today.

11. Never use the phrase: “In my time.” Your time is now. As long as you’re alive, you are part of this time. You may have been younger, but you are still you now, having fun and enjoying life.

12. Some people embrace their golden years, while others become bit-ter and surly. Life is too short to waste your days on the latter. Spend your time with positive, cheerful people, it’ll rub off on you and your days will seem that much better. Spending your time with bitter people will make you older and harder to be around.

13. Do not surrender to the temptation of living with your children or grandchildren (if you have a financial choice, that is). Sure, being surrounded by family sounds great, but we all need our privacy. They need theirs and you need yours. If you’ve lost your partner (our deep-est condolences), then find a person to move in with you and help out. Even then, do so only if you feel you really need the help or do not want to live alone.

14. Don’t abandon your hobbies. If you don’t have any, make new ones. You can travel, hike, cook, read, dance. You can adopt a cat or a dog, grow a garden, play cards, checkers, chess, dominoes, golf. You can paint, volunteer or just collect certain items. Find something you like and spend some real time having fun with it.

15. Even if you don’t feel like it, try to accept invitations. Baptisms, graduations, birthdays, weddings, conferences. Try to go. Get out of the house, meet people you haven’t seen in a while, experience some-thing new (or something old). But don’t get upset when you’re not invited. Some events are limited by resources, and not everyone can be hosted. The important thing is to leave the house from time to time. Go to museums, go walk through a field. Get out there.

16. Be a conversationalist. Talk less and listen more. Some people go on and on about the past, not caring if their listeners are really inter-ested. That’s a great way of reducing their desire to speak with you. Lis-ten first and answer questions, but don’t go off into long stories unless asked to. Speak in courteous tones and try not to complain or criticize too much unless you really need to. Try to accept situations as they are. Everyone is going through the same things, and people have a low tolerance for hearing complaints. Always find some good things to say as well.

17. Pain and discomfort go hand in hand with getting older. Try not to dwell on them but accept them as a part of the cycle of life we’re all going through. Try to minimize them in your mind. They are not who you are, they are something that life added to you. If they become your entire focus, you lose sight of the person you used to be.

18. If you’ve been offended by someone – forgive them. If you’ve of-fended someone - apologize. Don’t drag around resentment with you. It only serves to make you sad and bitter. It doesn’t matter who was right. Someone once said: “Holding a grudge is like taking poison and expecting the other person to die.” Don’t take that poison. Forgive, forget and move on with your life.

19. If you have a strong belief, savor it. But don’t waste your time try-ing to convince others. They will make their own choices no matter what you tell them, and it will only bring you frustration. Live your faith and set an example. Live true to your beliefs and let that memory sway them.

20. Laugh. Laugh A LOT. Laugh at everything. Remember, you are one of the lucky ones. You managed to have a life, a long one. Many never get to this age, never get to experience a full life. But you did. So what’s not to laugh about? Find the humor in your situation.

21. Take no notice of what others say about you and even less notice of what they might be thinking. They’ll do it anyway, and you should have pride in yourself and what you’ve achieved. Let them talk and don’t worry. They have no idea about your history, your memories and the life you’ve lived so far. There’s still much to be written, so get busy writing and don’t waste time thinking about what others might think. Now is the time to be at rest, at peace and as happy as you can be!

REMEMBER: “Life is too short to drink bad wine and warm beer.”

Our aim as dancers should be‘To wear out as many pairs of dance shoes as

possible before we do’.

On my way to dancing the other day I stopped in at the liquour store and bought a long deserved bottle of scotch and put it

in the basket of my bicycle.

After the dance and on my way home, “I thought to myself ”, If I fall off the bike the bottle of scotch would surely break.

So, before riding to far I drank it all and it turned out to be a wise decision.

I fell off my bike seven times beforearriving home.

Friday 8th. May - DAY THREEBreakfast comes early this morning because we are embarking on a full day’s journey to explore the northernmost tip of the Aupouri Peninsula and visit the lighthouse at Cape Reinga. This is the place where two oceans collide and Maori legend has it that at this point, where the Tasman Sea meets the Pacific Ocean. A gnarled 800 year oldPohutukawa tree houses the spirits of deceased Maori who leap intothe ocaen to return to their ancestral homeland of Hawaiki. Lunchincluded along the way and we then meander our way back through the untamed Northland subtopical landscape. Returning to the ScenicHotel in time for a drink and dinner again at the Nicau Restaurant.

Thursday 7th. May - DAY TWOAfter breakfast , it’s on to the coach for a drive even further north. We’ll be stopping off at the picturesque Helena Bay Cafe and Gallery for a delicious morning tea with spectacular views of native bush val-leys and the sparkling waters of the Tutukala coast beyond. The gallery is laden with stunning crafts, jewelry and artworks to feast your eyes on and purchase. A visit to Northland is not complete without calling in for a comfort stop at the unique Frederick Hundertwasser designed public toilets in Kawakawa. Lunch today is at the lovingly restored Duke of Marlborough Hotal in the historic settlement of Russell. We’ll then have a walking tour of the township and hear stories of NewZealand’s colourful colonial history in the area. Next, we hop on the ferry to take

Saturday 9th. May - DAY FOUR

The weather forecast today shoud state “sunny with a chance of dolphins and whales” as we head out to sea from Paihia taking in stunning views along the Rakaumangamanga Penninsula to Cape Brett. The historic lighthouse keeps watch over the “Hole In The Rock’ at Piercy Island / Motukokako. If we are lucky today one of or all of three things will be part of our sea adventure . Dolphin pods along the coastline may escort our boat - we may even sight a whale or two. Finally if conditions are favourable we will ‘cruise through the hole’, where it is considered lucky to get dripped on! Have your cameras ready for some fantastic marine life snaps. Once back on dry land we are lunching at nearby Waitangi House and Gardens followed by a Maori cultural performance and tour. Here the treaty of Waitangi was signed in 1840 between 500 Maori Chiefs and the British Crown ratifying a historically significant document of central importance to New Zealanders - both Maori and Pekeha. After this, there’s time to rattle a few coathangers and explore the shops in Paihia before returning to the hotel. We’ll enjoy dinner out tonight at the award-winning Provenir Restaurant with it’s breath taking vistas of the Pacific Ocean.

Breakfast, Dinner

Sunday 10th. May - DAY FIVEWe are going to be tree-huggers this morning - well one huge tree to be precise, New Zealand’s most giant Kauri - known as“Tane Mahuta” or Lord of the Forest is our morning stop over, and this could present a unique group photo opportuity as we encircle itsenormous girth, 15.44m. Morning tea is in Matakohe at the Gumdiggers Cafe and time to visit the nearby Kauri gum museum. Chock full of its beautiful honey coloured exhibits and fascinatinghistory about the once thriving mining industry. Continued over leaf

Day Five cont.Today is the day that our tour heads in a southerly direction and we’ll be arriving in Auckland in the early evening to get settled in at the Quality Hotel opposite the rose gardens in the quaint suburb of Parnell. Happy hour will be followed by dinner at your accommodation site.

Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Tuesday 12th. and Wednesday 13th. May We will spend at the Chateau where there will be an abundance of dance activities and relaxation, and for the more adventurous, time to explore the grounds and if you desire, further afield.

Thursday 14th. May - DAY NINESadly after several days of spectacular scenery, snow tipped peaks, lots of socialising and swishing about the dance floor, our time at the National Park comes to an end, as we pack up and head north. We stop off at the lush pastures of the Shitre of Hobbiton at Middle Earth. We will enjoy lunch and a tour of the famous movie set where New Zealand film maker Sir Peter Jackson shot his Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies. Themed nooks and crannies, dinky doors in hillsides and charming “Hobbit Holes” offer a fanciful escape into another realm that you won’t forget in a hurry. Mid afternoon we will be sure to be draging our heels as we head out of the Waikato region to finish our journey at the Novotel Auckland Airport where we share a farewelldinner with our new friends and travelling dance partners.

Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Friday 15th May - DAY TENThe hotel is directly opposite the International Airport, so it is a leisurely stroll

in the morning for check in, good byes, and shed a tear about leaving New Zealand, then onward to the departure lounge and our journey home.

Monday 11th. May - DAY SIXIt’s all aboard the Northern Explorer for an epic train journey rumbling through to the heart of the North Island, Now will be your chance to see the countryside as it slides past your window. On the journey we’ll have commentary and regular updates via GPS on our location, as well as an outdoor viewing carriage and a sit in cafe for snacks and refresh-ments. The train has toilets, and the leg room in the carriage is excellent so sit back, relax and enjoy the soothing rhythm to travel by track. We will climb a world renowned engineering railway featuring the Raurimu Spiral. After disembarking at the National Park on the Central Plateau, we will have our lunch at the Train Station Cafe. The Chateau Tongariro, a historic and stately hotel nestled majestically in it’s remote alpine land scape in the foothills of Mount Ruapehu is our next destination.

Day Six cont.Once we have handed our bags to the porters at the Chateau, we’ll drive up to the Bruce car park then explore the Ruapehu Skifield. At this time of year the snow can be scarce, but the landscape is nontheless wildly beautiful. From here we take a scenic ride on our newest touristattraction and recently constructed Mountain Skywaka Gondola to Knoll cafe- 2020 metres above sea level- feeling on top ot the world - keep your cameras handy. Early evening and we are back down the mountain to check in properly at The Chateau. After all that fresh mountain air our appetites will be significant so superior dining beneath shimmering chandeliers in the Ruapehu Room will be a delightful treat.

Dancing in Geelong

The Geelong Ballroom Dance Club was first established in the 1980’s.

It has been under the care and guidance of some wonderfully passionate Ballroom Dancers since that time. Four years ago, our club almost closed. A Committee of dedicated Danc-ers led by our former President Jose Garrido-Palacios devoted their hearts, souls and hard work to ensure our Ballroom survived!

The Committee is always thinking of ways to attract new people to join us in our elegant and healthy sport. We are a not for profit club. We conduct a Family Day for Members and Guests to enjoy an afternoon of dance and fun for free. Our Membership is only $10 per Annum. In April we are starting a Beginners Class. Which is $10 for 10 weeks to encourage new dancers to give ballroom a try .Every year we have a well suported Charity Ball to raise funds for a chosen worth cause.

We have a Dance Troup who demonstrate at Nursing and Retirement Homes and they love the joy that they see on the residents’ faces as they remember times past. A good number of our Dancers love to travel to Ballroom Events around the country and their enjoyment of these Dance Weekends inspired us to run our First Dance Weekend last year.

This year we must thank Eleanor Fitz, Russell & Lesley Edwards and Patti Bond & Tony Gilbert for helping and encouraging us with our “Dance Weekend Extravaganza” 2019.

“The Ballroom” conducts a Social Dance every Saturday Night except for the Christmas Break. Some Dance Schools and Social Clubs conduct classes and dances at “The Ballroom” at various times. The Geelong Region has a healthy number of Ballroom Studios and several of the teachers provide the best CD music for our Saturday Night Dances throughout the year. We also have some fun regular Musicians.

We are all very excited to invite and welcome Dancers from all over Australia to our Beautiful Big Ballroom in our Beautiful City by The Bay, Geelong.

We wish to reciprocate the kindness we receive when we visit your towns to dance, learn and explore.

Dance like nobody’s watching!!
