Stage

By the late 1970s, trailblazing keyboardist/composer/producer Jeff Lorber had become a prominent figure in the new movement known as jazz fusion – a marriage of traditional jazz with elements of rock, R&B, funk and

other electrified sounds Lorber’s music reaches a new level by crystallizing jazz, funk, and Latin rhythms with some killer melodies that will certainly translate to live performance.

Raised in church and weaned on gospel and soul music, the Houston born saxman Everette Harp found himself ahead of the curve on his first two Blue Note recordings, Everette Harp (1992) and Common Ground (1994). He has since expanded his musical accomplishments and gigs, most recently opening for Kenny Loggins and touring Europe.

Composer/producer, and smooth jazz guitarist Paul Jackson, Jr. was a guitarist in The Tonight Show band and for American Idol. Paul received a “Best R&B Instrumental” Grammy nomination for the title track of his first release entitled “I Came to Play.” His single “It’s A Shame” from his current release “Still Small voice”, reached No. 1 on Smoothjazz.com and R&R Smooth Jazz charts. He performed in the band for the shows Don’t Forget the Lyrics, America’s Got Talent and Grease: You’re the One That I Want.

Singer, guitarist, and songwriter, Terry James, is a Chicago style blues man who uses his raspy, deep bass voice to energize the audi-

ence. James is a soulful, animated performer with an expres-sive, and melodic guitar style to match. With a broad sense of his blues heritage, James creates a mixture of soulful, rockin’ blues and R&B that blends the style of Taj Mahal, Jimi Hendrix, BB King, Carlos Santana, and Buddy Guy just to name a few. Born in Waukegan, Ill James was fascinated by music early on and has created an upbeat style that has won critical acclaim both at home and throughout the Midwest. While Playing with the “Rhythm Dogs”, James has opened up for Buddy Guy, Lonnie Brooks, Koko Taylor, Mississippi Heat and the Fabulous Thunderbirds, and has performed in many of the Chicago Blues Clubs over the years. Terry James credits his success to musical mentor Tommy Palmer and childhood friend Brian Hall. His guitar playing has always been a personal expression of his soul to the listening audience.

Nellie “Tiger” Travis was born deep in the delta of Mississippi in the early 60’s. In November 2009 Nellie, was crowned the New Queen Of The Blues for Chicago by

Bluesman Purvis Spann. The nickname “Tiger” was born after Nellie came to Chicago which aptly describes her feline-like, intense Tina Turner and Aretha Franklin vocal style as well as her feisty, independent personality. Nellie has one of the tightest Chicago Blues and R&B/Soul bands found anywhere in the world comprised of the best musicians from Chicago’s Blues scene. Nellie Travis has headlined at the Chicago Blues Festival and at numerous festivals/clubs around the world in countries such as Japan, Greece, Italy, Germany, Brazil, and is a permanent headlining personality at Chicago’s Kingston Mines, Buddy Guy’s Legends and Blue Chicago where she continues to pack them in. She has shared the stage with such legendary greats as Buddy Guy, B.B. King, Koko Taylor, Glady’s Knight, Ronnie Baker Brooks just to name a few. Her influences are such powerful performers as Big Mama Thornton, KoKo Taylor (of course) and Etta James. Nellie has won several awards and many nominations including the Blues Critic 2013 Readers Poll award as the Best Vocal performance female, and her acclaimed single “Mr. Sexy Man” won Best Southern Soul and Best Dance and Funk Song.
