What you bring away from the Bible depends to some extent on

what you carry to it.

-Oliver Wendell Holmes

The sun of justice will arise with healing

in its wings.

-Malachi 3:20

GOD’S HEALING JUSTICE An old expression holds that the sun-warmed stone heals. Perhaps. But Malachi explains that only dark, sunless days are in store for those who do not find a place for God in their lives. Conversely, he tells us that the warmth and light of God’s healing justice await those who fear the Lord. That’s a pretty comforting notion—especially now in the already short and growing even shorter days of November. It’s the sun-warmed stone, and then some. Paul speaks to us of justice as well, but points out that it is not a passive thing. To be treated justly, we need to do our fair share. If we are diligent and persevere we will be rewarded with and by the fruits of our labor. Lastly, Luke, too, tells us to persevere—in faith, this time—and our lives will be secure in God regardless of how we are treated by our enemies. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

FINANCIAL REPORT

“Active” membership at a Parish enables a person to be eligible to sponsor a child for Baptism, to receive financial aid for Catholic Education, to be married in the Parish and to prepare one’s children for the Sacraments. To be an “active” member is to participate in the life of prayer and stewardship in the Parish. All adults over the age of 21, living with their parents or on their own, must register in the Parish to be considered members. The use of the offering envelopes may also help you to qualify for tax incentives. Participating in one or more of the ministries offered by the Parish is proof of the sharing of time and talent for the greater good of our Church Community. So please pick-up a free registration form at the Parish Office, or print one from our website at www.stbarnabaslb.org. Stop by the Parish Office and we will be happy to help you! SAINT ALBERT THE GREAT FEAST DAY: NOV. 15 Albert the Great was a 13th-century German Dominican who decisively influenced the Church’s stance toward Aristotelian philosophy brought to Europe by the spread of Islam. Students of philosophy know him as the master of Thomas Aquinas. Albert’s attempt to understand Aristotle’s writings established the climate in which Thomas

Aquinas developed his synthesis of Greek wisdom and Christian theology. But Albert deserves recognition on his own merits as a curious, honest, and diligent scholar. Albert, a Doctor of the Church, is the patron of scientists and philosophers.

St. Barnabas School News SCHOOL STUDENT NON-DISCRIMINATION POLICY The school, mindful of its mission to be a witness to the love of Christ for all, admits students regardless of race, color or national and/or ethnic origin to all rights, privileges, programs and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. The school does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, disability, medical condition, sex or national and/or ethnic origin in the administration of educational policies, admissions policies, scholarship and loan programs, and athletic and other school-administered programs, although certain athletic leagues and other programs may limit participation and some archdiocesan schools operate as single sex schools. While the school does not discriminate against students with special needs, a full range of services may not always be available to them. Decisions concerning the admission and continued enrollment of a student in the school are based upon the student’s emotional, academic and physical abilities and the resources available to the school in meeting the student’s needs.

======================================================================================Projects around the Parish are slated to begin this week with the first of our restroom renovations in the Church. This

project will continue until mid-December. The Air Conditioning project in the school is beginning soon and is scheduled to be completed in January. This will lead us directly into the long awaited Legacy Terrace, project beginning February 1st. We are very excited to begin and appreciate everyone's patience as we work to restore the beauty of our church home.

Parish Projects Update

This month we are introducing a new and exciting way for you to support our parish offertory and second collections: Faith Direct. Faith Direct enables parishioners to make your Church contributions through either direct debit from your checking/savings account or through your credit/debit card. No more writing checks or searching for enve-lopes on the way out the door. Now you can apply the convenience of direct debit to your parish offerings in much the same way as you may now use it to make your mortgage, car or tuition payments. Faith Direct also offers you personalized offertory cards to replace your envelopes for the collection basket. Please join me in enrolling by responding to the mailing you will receive or visit www.faithdirect.net to enroll se-curely online. Our parish code is CA794. God Bless You! Rev. Antony J. Gaspar

Father John was in his study on Sunday morning praying that God send him some insight on how to raise the money to repair the leaking church roof. His prayers was interrupted by the substitute organist, who wanted to know what songs to play at Mass, Father John was caught off guard, "Use your own judgment," he instructed brusquely. After the homily, Father John announced, "We need an additional $4,000 to repair our roof. Any of you who can pledge $100 or more, please stand up," The substitute organist immediately launched into "The Star Spangled Banner." And that is how the substitute became the regular organist.
