Were not ten made clean? and where are the nine?

At that time, as Jesus was going to Jerusalem, he passed through the midst of Samaria and Galilee:

and as He entered into a certain town, there met him ten men that were lepers, who stood

afar off, and lifted up their voice, saying: Jesus, master, have mercy

on us. Whom when He saw, He said: Go, show yourselves to the priests. And it came to pass, as they went, they were made clean. And one of them, when

he saw that he was made clean, went back, with a loud voice glorifying God: and he fell on

his face before His feet, giving thanks: and this was a Samaritan.

And Jesus answering said: Were not ten made clean? And where are the nine? There is no

one found to return, and give glory to God, but this stranger. And He said to him: Arise, go

thy way; for thy faith hath made thee whole.

Luke 17, 11-19

Mission Co-Op Sunday At the weekend Masses of August 29&30, we will be welcoming

the Franciscan Missionary Sisters of the Infant Jesus who will be present with us as part of the annual Mission Appeal in our diocese. The Mission Appeal is an opportunity for congregations to make their missions known in our various churches and to ask for spiritual and financial assistance. The Franciscan Missionary Sisters are religious who are serving the People of God worldwide, serving in 5 continents. They are missioned in the United States in both the diocese of Camden and the diocese of Trenton. A second collection for their missions will be taken up at each Mass and we ask you to please be as generous as your means permit so that together we can share our love and resources with those in need. Please keep them in your prayers as they prepare for their visit.

"In order to be happy in this life and in eternity, one must model one's life after the life of our Divine Master, as Christian

Doctrine points out. This is all Jesus wants from us. (Letter 248)

Barbara Micarelli, Foundress of the Franciscan Missionary Sisters of the Infant Jesus

"La vita dell'uomo per essere felice nel tempo e nella eternita' deve modellarsi a quanto il

nostro Divin Maestro ci dice nella Dottrina Cristiano, ecco quant Gesu' vuole da noi. " Lettera 248

BALTIMORE CATECHISM LESSON FOURTEENTH: On Baptism

Q. 644. How many kinds of Baptism are there?

A. There are three kinds of Baptism:

Baptism of water, of desire, and of blood.

Q. 645. What is Baptism of water?

A. Baptism of water is that which is given by pouring water on the head of the person to be baptized, and saying at the same time, "I baptize thee in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost."

Q. 646. In how many ways was the baptism of water given in the first ages of the Church?

A. In the first ages of the Church, baptism of water was given in three ways, namely, by immersion or dipping, by aspersion or sprinkling, and by infusion or pouring. Although any of these methods would be valid, only the method of infusion or pouring is now allowed in the Church.

Q. 647. What are the chief ceremonies used in solemn baptism, and what do they signify?

A. The chief ceremonies used in solemn baptism are:

1. A profession of faith and renouncement of the devil to signify our worthiness;

2. The placing of salt in the mouth to signify the wisdom imparted by faith;

3. The holding of the priest's stole to signify our reception into the Church;

4. The anointing to signify the strength given by the Sacrament;

5. The giving of the white garment or cloth to signify our sinless state after baptism; and

6. The giving of the lighted candle to signify the light of faith and fire of love that should dwell in our souls.
