LENTEN VESPERS CONTINUES Lenten Vespers 2016 continues this coming Tues-
day evening, March 1 at 6:30pm in the Lower
Chapel and continues on the following two Tues-
days, March 8 and 15 (a Reconciliation Service), Sister Odile
Coirier, F.M.M. will offer the Reflection on "Mercy: Finding
it in the Real World - the Problem of Human Trafficking.
The Flyer in the vestibule provides the details about the Ves-
pers, the Lenten Suppers and the Reflections for this Series
sponsored by the Adult Faith Formation Committee.
OUR PARISH CELEBRATES THE LENTEN SCRUTINIES
Today, February 28th and next two Sundays, March
6th and March 13th, 2016 we celebrate the Lenten Scrutinies
with the Elect—those preparing for Baptism, Confirmation
and First Eucharist at the Easter Vigil on March 26th, 2016.
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults says that the purpose of
the Scrutinies is to “uncover and then to heal all that is weak,
defective and sinful in the hearts of the elect; to bring out and then to strengthen all that is upright, strong and good.” As we
pray for them we ask God to do exactly the same thing for us!
The readings on these Sundays are always from Cycle
A because of the importance of the teachings of these Gospels: the living water of life and faith, light and sight, salvation from
sin and life over death.
What can we as a parish do to help those preparing
for Baptism, Confirmation, and First Eucharist? If possible, take part in the Scrutinies at the 12 Noon Mass. Spend some
time in prayer for the men and women preparing for the Sac-
raments of Initiation at the Easter Vigil. TODAY’S PARISH, a
Ligouri publication, gives this suggestion: Pray also for the
courage to look honestly into your own heart. What needs to
be healed and what needs to be strengthened in your own life?
“Blessed are you, God of light and Lord of Life, for
you have opened our eyes to see your truth and to know your
love. Improve our sight that we may see your love that sur-
rounds us…open our graves and raise us to new life in your
Son.”
2016 Cardinal’s Annual Stewardship Appeal
The Cardinal’s Annual Appeal has begun! During this Jubilee
Year of Mercy, we are called to help one another and be mer-ciful, as Jesus is for all of us. Many of you have received a
letter from Cardinal Dolan asking for your support. When

The combined communities of Holy Name of Jesus and St. Gregory the Great are sponsoring a Helping Hands Event on Saturday, April 2, 2016 at 9:00am to package meals for vulnerable people in Burkina
Faso. We need to raise money and secure volunteers to make this a successful Lenten Project. This project fits the so-cial justice mission of The Church. Please take a flyer from the vestibule to get detailed information on the project. Throughout Lent, checks can be made to Holy Name Church with Helping Hands written on the memo line or cash in an envelope marked with Helping Hands on the outside can be dropped in the collection or at the parish office. You may also charge your donations or volunteer on line by going to the website helpinghands.crs.org and click on Regis-ter for your event. Helping Hands Events are listed by month. Go to April and find Holy Name to donate or volunteer.
HELPING HANDS PROJET ‘EMBALLAGE D’ALIMENTS’

Great parrainent un projet “Helping Hands” le 2 avril 2016. Nous avons besoin d’aide pour emballer des repas destinés à
la population en danger et dans le besoin au Burkina Faso.
Nous lançons une campagne pour trouver des bénévoles et recueillir des fonds pour que ce projet soit un succès de Carê-
me. Cette initiative illustre la mission de justice sociale de
l’Eglise. Prenez un dépliant dans le vestibule de l’Eglise pour
avoir plus de détails sur le projet. Durant le Carême les chè-
ques peuvent être écrits au nom de Holy Name Parish. Pour
les dons en espèces vous pouvez soit les mettre dans une enve-loppe avec la mention « Helping Hands » que vous déposerez dans le panier de la quête, soit les porter au Bureau Paroissial.
Vous pouvez également offrir vos dons ou bénévolat en ligne
