Dear Brothers and Sisters, God speaks to us in so many ways: through nature, the weather, the celestial depiction of his majestic power. He speaks to us in volumes through the Sunday Scripture readings. This Sunday it is called “Gaudete Sunday” it means rejoice: The King is coming! This Sunday’s Gospel invites us to continue our reflection on the person and mission of John the Baptist, the precursor of the Messiah. Today we depart from the Gospel of Mark and read a selection from the Gospel of John. John is a very Highly Theological Gospel… St. John combines a brief passage from his prologue with a report about John the Baptist. As in Mark’s Gospel, the Gospel of John contains no birth narrative. Instead, John’s Gospel begins with a theological reflection that has come to be called the “prologue.” This prologue places the story of Jesus in its cosmological framework. It speaks of Jesus’ existence with God since the beginning of time. In John’s Gospel, Jesus is presented as the fulfillment of the Old Testament and the culmination of the Word, the light that is coming into the world’s darkness. The Long-Promised Messiah! Following this prologue, John reports on the ministry of John the Baptist. We learn about the attention that John the Baptist received from the Jewish authorities. Messengers from the Jewish priests, the Levites and the Pharisees question John about his “identity” and the meaning of the baptism that he is performing. John’s Gospel uses these questions to establish the relationship between Jesus and John the Baptist. John the Baptist is not the Messiah, nor is he Elijah or the Prophet. He is the Voice that Cries in the Dessert: Prepare the Way of The Lord! How well are preparing His coming into your life, situation, family, your surroundings, etc.? During Advent, we pray that we will be able to recognize Jesus’ presence in our midst. Advent also reminds us that Jesus will come again to fulfill the promise of salvation. We pray that we will continue to be watchful as we anticipate that great day. It is a reminder that Advent is a season of joy because our salvation is already at hand. Please let us continue to pray for our Parish that God continue to bless us in this time. Come Lord Jesus!

From the Glory and Praise Hymnal

Stewards Rejoice Always: “Rejoice always, pray constantly, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you” 1 THESSALONIANS 5:16 - 18

This scripture reading sums up Stewardship. “Rejoice always” means place your trust in God; He will provide all that you need. “Pray constantly” means prayer should be a running conversation with God throughout the whole day, every day. “Give thanks in all circumstances” means even in bad situations, thank God. Suffering a little bit helps build empathy for others in similar situations and shows our dependence on God.

Feast of Faith: The Shape of the Mass: In the renewal of the liturgy that followed the Second Vatican Council, the full, conscious, and active participation of the assembly was the primary consideration. By participation, the Council Fathers did not mean just joining in the singing and the spoken responses, but active engagement and prayerful understanding of the rites. They envisioned a transparent liturgy, a worship that spoke so directly to the hearts and minds of the faithful that it would require no explanation at all. The liturgy itself is the best possible catechesis on the liturgy. What does the liturgy teach us? It shows us the ministry of Jesus continuing in the present. He gathers a community. He calls us to prayer and repentance and praise. He teaches us with the very word of God. He does not send us away empty, but sets before us a marvelous banquet, feeding us with his very body and blood. Then he sends us forth to do what he has done—to give ourselves for others, not just in words, but in deeds. The Mass is the pattern of our Christian lives. —Corinna Laughlin, Copyright © J. S. Respect Life The Respect Life Ministry’s mission is to honor Our Lady of Guadalupe, the patroness of the unborn, by making the protection of all human life, especially the lives of the most vulnerable, a priority for the people of the parish. We do this through offering opportunities for prayer (Holy Hours for Life, pro-life rosary), education (Respect Life displays and handouts), action (Annual Life Chain, March for Life, and information on upcoming legislation regarding life issues and ways to contact our representatives) and service (diaper drives, support for pregnancy care centers through donations). We also collaborate with the Office of Life and Justice of the Diocese of Camden, New Jersey Right to Life for legislative information concerning threats to human life, and LIFENET, which educates and provides information and materials for parishes on life issues. If you are interested in participating in this Ministry, please contact: Mary Ann Chezik at 609-707-1725 or [email protected]

Spiritual Life Formation

Our deepest gratitude to all of our families who joined in our 4th annual Giving Tree Christmas

Stocking Project! Together we filled over 100 stockings for children and senior citizens! This is the 3rd week of Advent. It is the week of Joy. Here is a blessing for your family to say

when lighting your family’s advent wreath.

“Dear Jesus, help us focus on you during this busy season. May we stay aware of the joy you bring into our lives. We want to find you in the everyday moments and come with

hearts of gratitude to your manger on Christmas. Amen.”

Dear Parish Friends; As we approach the Christmas holiday, it is a time when gratitude is front and center – and gratitude has helped many of us to be resilient and hopeful through tough times. We just completed day 50 of the school year, and we are grateful for the cooperation of all our families, staff and, benefactors who helped us reach this milestone.

As COVID-19 continues to spread rapidly this fall, the future has never felt so unpredictable. Right now, Saint John Paul II Regional School is doing everything possible to sustain the operations of our school in providing a safe Catholic education - both in-person and remotely to our students (80% of our students are in-person).

In these unprecedented times, we face new financial challenges in the overall continuity of our school operations. Our 225 students and families need us now more than ever, and we need you.

Despite, necessary budget cuts, there is an urgent need to fill a significant gap between the tuition that is charged to parents and the actual cost of tuition. That gap is $274,500. With the new restrictions due to the pandemic, our school’s fundraising has come to a standstill. Bingo is our biggest fundraiser which brings in $130,000. At this time Bingo is suspended until further notice.

A virtual gift auction and a virtual walk are planned which will help towards reducing the $274,500 gap. Our yearly spring carnival planned for May can potentially bring an additional $30,000, but with a pandemic we are uncertain if a carnival will be possible. We will continue with various sales; however, sales alone will not raise the needed funds to close this gap. We humbly ask you to support St. John Paul II School with a gift of $300.00 to our annual fund or please be as generous as possible. Your gift helps us meet our school’s financial need for the overall continuity of operations bringing Catholic education to many children. Your tax-deductible gift can be made in honor of a student, a teacher, or in memory of a cherished loved one. You may also make your donation online at www.jp2rs.org/giving/annual-fund-campaign We are hopeful that Saint John Paul II School will overcome these challenges with continued belief in our mission dedicated to helping our students lead lives with Christian values. We came together to form Saint John Paul II School in 2008, because of our faith in God and in each other. God will see us through this. Thank you in advance for your support! Have a Blessed Advent Season,
