THIPA stands for Torrance Health Independent Practice Association. THIPA is a non-profit multi-specialty physician network and a division of Torrance Memorial Health System. THIPA has been serving the South Bay community for more than 30 years. Our members have access to high- quality and personalized care from over 350 primary care and specialist physicians as well the nationally recognized Torrance Memorial Medical Center.

THIPA is not a health plan THIPA is not your insurance or health plan. We contract with major insurance companies that provide financial coverage for your medical care. As your “Medical Group” or “Physician Network”, THIPA provides the medical care covered by your health plan.

How to select a Medicare Advantage Health Plan & Join THIPAIn 4 Easy Steps

Enroll in Medicare Parts A and B.

If not enrolled already, call Social Security or go on-line to enroll at www.Medicare.gov. You will receive your Medicare card and your “Medicare & You” booklet in a few weeks.

Select a Medicare Advantage health plan

If you need help with this:

Choose THIPA as your Medical Group. When you choose a Medicare Advantage health plan, you should select a medical group. To select THIPA as your medical group, you should select a Primary Care Physician from the THIPA (Torrance Health IPA) network.

Look for Your New Insurance Card. Make sure your information and your doctor’s name is listed correctly and that it says “Torrance Health IPA” or “THIPA” on your card. If this information is incorrect, call your insurance company and request that they correct the information. The Member Service’s number can be found on the back of your insurance card.

Ensure your Health Plan and your Primary Care Physician are contracted with THIPA.

If you are not certain, call THIPA Member Services at 1-866-568-4472 (Toll Free) to find out. If your health plan or your PCP are not contracted with THIPA and you still want to join THIPA, our Member Services Team can help you find a health plan and a Primary Care Physician with THIPA to match your specific healthcare needs and preferences.

Contact Your Current Health Plan’s Member Services

The number can be found on your medical insurance card. Tell them that you would like to join THIPA (Torrance Health IPA) and give them the name of your THIPA Primary Care Physician.

Confirm the THIPA Physician’s Code for your Primary Care Physician is being used.

If you do not take this step, you may not be enrolled in THIPA and won’t have access to THIPA’s network of physicians.

Look For Your New Medical Insurance ID Card

Make sure your information and your doctor’s name is listed correctly and that it says “Torrance Health IPA” or “THIPA” on your card.If this information is incorrect, call your insurance company again and repeat Steps 2 through 4.

Switch Your Medical Group to THIPA Anytime

If you are with a medical group or IPA other than THIPA and would like to switch to THIPA, you don’t need to wait until Medicare Annual Open Enrollment. You can make the switch anytime throughout the year.
